the magnet on the edge of Smart Cover that makes it stay closed (or not flapping around much when it is open) can hold the Pencil in place.

That's handy, you got any pics of this? Is it easy to knock off the pen by accident though? Worried that as it's only being held by a magnet it will come off easily

It does, although it's nothing I'd trust carrying around constantly. Tried it and it fell off within seconds.

I tend to store it just as I would any other pencil: in my bag for long term or my pocket short term.

I am glad I went with a back case that came with a spot of the Apple Pencil, if it had to go in the bag or pocket I would lose it for sure. This way I always put it away. Since I put a little rubber part on to help hold the cap, it does not really stick well to the Smart Cover. Cool that it can though.

I know the item... I mean how well does it hold in the smart cover and back of the device
