And what would be the point of me faking screenshots if I didn't have a problem? What could I stand to gain from that?

Also, I don't think the store could replace it; it has been custom configured with a hi-res screen, but the rest of the parts are standard, which is a model they don't stock.

Hi,

I bought a hi-res, 17", 2.5Ghz MBP in the middle of March of this year. Since then, I've been experiencing random/intermittent freezing (NVChannel Timeouts, for those who have heard of the problem before).

After hours spent on the phone to Applecare, I brought my machine in to the Apple Store. On the first visit, I was basically refused service for no apparent reason, and was told to call Customer Services for a replacement. They refused to give me a replacement. (Although I cannot reproduce the bug in front of the Geniuses, I have screenshots of the Console showing NVChannel errors).

I took the machine back to the store after a phonecall from the Manager of the Genius Bar. They took my machine in and replaced the logic board.

I took the machine back and then discovered that the problem was still occurring.

I am now stuck with a machine which freezes intermittently, sometimes requiring a restart of the computer, causing me to lose all my work. I do not know who to go to next; returning to the Store for the forth time is not very enjoyable and will probably be a waste of time.

This is my first MBP and first Apple product, and unless this gets sorted, probably my last one as well. I find it unacceptable that a £1800 ($3600) laptop has had all these problems and caused me such inconvenience.

I am UK based and went to the flagship store in Regent's Street.

What can I do next?

Heres what u should do.

1)use the machine like u always do, try to rcreate it for the whole day (im sure u can) and once it happens dont turn it off or restart leave it and take it down to the apple store show it to them and demand a whole new mbp.

2) If they deny u get the logic board swapped again and im for sure the freeze will occur again then repeat step 1 once more, and if they are stubborn to give u a whole new mbp then get the logic board replaced once more. At apple 3 replacements and if the error occurs again u have the right to get a whole new repacement.

I always feel iffy about a logic board replacement, I noticed once a powerbook/mbp gets a logic board swap the problems always comes back or the logic board fails again within the next 6-9 months.

Only answer is to get a whole new mbp thats works the first time around. I have the 2.6ghz 17" hi res mbp for the past month and a half and it never froze on me under itunes or any other 20 programs that I use.

One thing that I can say is that I ran folding@home and on my mac pro on my sig and it froze it intermittently so I remember erasing it and my mp never froze even once.
