It's madness. I'm getting a bit tired of Apple's draconian system.

iFixit has a kit for sale for $10 that lets you change the screws to regular on the iPhone. I'm sure if Apple does the same to MBP's they will also release a kit for that...
 
Is the particular design they're using patented or something? It seems like it'd be trivial for someone with some machining knowledge to crank these out and sell them on eBay...

There was a big thread about this yesterday, go look at it. All this recent kerfuffle is just scam from iFixit to sell their overpriced kits. As for Apple being "draconion"? Get over yourself. They don't want the average Joe opening the phones and breaking them. Anyone technically minded will soon be able to get $2 drivers which I'm sure will be all over eBay before too long. Companies have been using custom screws for years. It's not a problem, don't invent one.
