I keep reading people are having issues doing phone to phone transfer. Is this true for everyone? My brother in law just told me it took 7 hours for 110GB from his to transfer from a 12PM to 14PM. It is just a iPhone 16 issue? I'm waiting for my 16PM to ship. Currently have a 14PM. When I did the phone to phone transfer from a 12Pro and the 14PM it only took 30 mins for 150GB of storage. Now I have 223GB of usage. Should I mentally prepare myself for it to take 12 hours to phone to phone transfer?

For me it’s currently at 12 hrs and not dropping. It seems for some people it takes a lot longer. My experience is so far similar to last year.

That's insane! Do you think it's a software issue?

I didn’t have an issue at all. Whole process including setting up the bank apps, and logged in apps took 90 mins.

Hi, I know this isn't directly relating to the subject here but there probably isn't any forum that would be. I just upgraded my iPhone 15 PM to iOS 18 and the Power Pong 🏓 app no longer connects with the control box for the Power Pong robot. Does anyone else use the PP Robot and have found a workaround. It's still working fine with the Android app. Probably just a matter of waiting for the app to be updated...but a more expeditious solution would be much appreciated.

No idea. But setting up from scratch would be even more time consuming for me. So I’m waiting it out.

Last year I used WiFi. This year I’m using a Thunderbolt 3 cable. Same effects. But at least unlike last year, I haven’t (yet) had it fail and have to be restarted.

The transfer is still in progress… will the batteries last long enough for it to complete?

I had no problems with the wireless phone to phone transfer. My phone was 112 GB, it transferred in less than 20 minutes. It then took a little additional time to load all the apps from the cloud, but nowhere near the numbers I'm seeing from some people.

Because I traded in my old iPhone at Apple Store, I can't received the texted code to enter to transfer my cell # over.

Sort of dumb to have Apple take my old iphone on the spot and then leave me in the lurch like this.

Waiting 1 hour for call back from TMO.

Luckily, I backed everything on my Mac Studio before I left to the Apple store.

I did mine from iCloud and while it was fast, Health data still syncing since yesterday. I think there is a bug in iOS 18 regarding Health and Fitness data when recovering from iCloud. Photos, iMessages, Keychain and everything else stored in my iCloud restored just fine but Health…..

Seems like very time I change phones the phone to phone transfer just doesnt work. Tried five times with the 16 pro and gave up and used the cloud. That worked quickly and flawlessly except my downloaded music wont transfer. sux.

No issue getting my number transferred over. When I went to transfer my data, it initially said 21 hours, but it ended up taking 2-3 hours. From what I can tell, everything transferred over just fine.

Edit: Just checked my Health data, and it transferred over for me.

I don't use icloud. The reason is I take a ton of photos and screen shots. I then back them up in google photos app and delete them off my phone. If I were to use icloud I would then have all these photos that I don't want back onto my phone. Also I would need a 4TB iPhone for all the photos which they don't have so I wouldn't even be able to restore from icloud.

Yesterday at the Apple Store, estimates were at 2 days for a 30gb transfer from an iPhone 11 to 16pm, and other ppl were also not having any success with transferring their backups.

Mine failed. Both batteries rapidly depleted from 80 to empty in about an hour, after being more gradual for the 3 hours before. Transfer failed.

Restarted it now with both phones plugged into power and instead doing the transfer over WiFi. Estimate before starting was 1 hour. After starting, estimate started at 4 hours and immediately grew to 6 hours.

Stay tuned!

Mine said 9 hours and was at 7 when I went to bed last night. Was done in the morning when I woke up. No issues with the transfer.

Yo I had this same issue. Had to drive to ATT to get it sorted out. What a pain in the ass!

I was at the apple store yesterday with my sister. My sister got her 1TB Pro 16. She traded in her 256GB iPhone 12 pro for the 16 pro while i was getting the series 10. The store was pretty busy yesterday as it was drop day with all the new products. the both of us got to Apple around 6:30pm and we were in the store until about 8pm. We were in line for 30 mins as we were walk-ins. So, I want to say that we spent a total of an hour-ish to get our items and get it set up. I want to say it took my sister about 45-ish minutes for her phone carrier to be activated in the store and then making sure that her icloud backups was syncing correctly to the new phone before leaving. It took her about 2-3 hours for her iCloud backups to be synced over to the new phone which she did overnight while she was sleeping. Which is normal compared to mine and her's past upgrades. I asked her today how her new phone was doing today, and she reported to me that she had no issues.

The only issue between my sister and I was that we've been having at the store is having the old device's 'find my location' turned off and erased in the process of trading in. I guess the store was having issues trying to get the old device off of people's account and we had to go through the web browser to get it fully off since trying to go into the find my location app and whatnot wasn't working properly.

OMG, TMO rep said I have to into a TMO store in order to get my new 16 setup.

Of all the power they hold, they can't activate it via IMEI or WiFi !

Are we in the dark ages ?

The last 2 iPhone-to-iPhone transfers I've done, I've used a WIRED phone-to-phone connection. 2 to 3 hours usually -- I'm fine with that.

For whatever reason, though I started over and tried twice following the same process the last two years, I could not for the life of me find the screen where both phones recognize that there's a cable connecting the two phones. It feels to me and seems like old-->new went over wi-fi.

Which is fine I guess -- like last year, I used the Thunderbolt 4 cable that comes with a Studio Display. It was just under 2 hours last year. And I always use the (white) Apple USB-C Digital AV converter...setting up power and using a 3.0 USB-A cable on the other end for the other phone...I know I can go phone-to-phone, but I hate hot phones and refuse to use MagSafe...so I cable everything up. It's worked great...up until this year.

Wish I knew what it was this time around.

I was able to do a phone to phone transfer pretty seamlessly, it took about 2 hours all in. The only issue I ran into was the new phone came up with a message about charging being on hold because the phone was to hot, it was ok cause the phone had a decent enough charge and after everything synced it cooled down and resumed charging.

Wow. So my situation was I traded in my iPhone then they asked me if I wanted to download my iCloud and all that with my new iPhone at the store. I knew the store was busy and how to do all that so I said no. Got into my car to use my phone as car play and I got stuck on that screen. It said it would send a number to my cell number but I had already traded in my phone. Drove to an ATT store to get it activated there. This workflow feels like a missed step from apple. The equipment on my line was never activated. Really made setting up my phone a huge hassle.

I have 850 Mbps connection....therefore I have found it to be much faster just to restore from iCloud and let it do its thing. I have found the phone to phone transfer problematic, while usually with an icloud backup I'm done in a little more than an hour or two until it finishes downloading everything
