A typical comment on social media and in many YouTube reviews goes: “Why would anyone pay $999 for an iPhone Air when it has worse specs than even the regular iPhone?”

Could you please finally understand that not every user cares about processor power or professional-grade cameras? Some people specifically want a light, thin, and elegant iPhone. Many iPhone users don’t play demanding games on their phone and only take simple point-and-shoot photos.

To be honest, it really annoys me how even on YouTube there seems to be some kind of baseline for what people are supposed to want from an iPhone. Just because someone like MKBHD prefers a giant phone with huge battery life and a Hollywood-level camera doesn’t mean everyone else should want the same thing.

I think iPhone Air is gonna sell like crazy!

iPhone air is definitely what they see as the way forward. Pros for the heavy utilitarian use etc, air for the new path. Much like iPhone X was the new way even though the launched the 8s right beside it.

People have said this around this forum since its launch in that it will only get better. Heck by the time I upgrade if they have stereo speakers I'll probably be considering it

People get it. It's just most people are not overly concerned about the weight or thickness. The regular iPhone is not bothersome to that degree.

Some people compare it to MacBook Air in 2008. Regular notebooks of that era were 4-5 lbs and 1-inch thick. You carried it using a backpack. That's not that case with iPhone.

Here here!

100% agree - I am one of those that don't live on the iPhone 24/7 like the influencers.

I want the Air for the slimness, lighter weight and new form factor than the traditional Apple bar style phone.

Air will be the dark horse and sweep the public.

That's why I will be up at 5am Friday to order one!

Can't wait to trade in the 16 Pro for the 17 Air and it's only costing me $619.

I remember hearing the same thing when the iPod mini came out (smaller iPod well before the nano). I was very excited to buy one. A friend of mine nearly lost his mind over what he thought was my very stupid purchase. After all, it was about the same price as the original iPod and held only 500 songs, compared to the original iPod's 1000 songs! Needless to say, I loved that device and they sold like hotcakes.

Are you planning on getting a case? If you don't mind me asking. Looking forward to your review and pics :D.

It’s the perfect device for those that do a lot of consuming only. The screen is big / nice as the pros. Has a decent camera for when you want a photo of something. I always got the pro max for the screen but hardly ever did anything pro with it. The Air now fits perfectly for my needs.

I’m one of those people that said I don’t care about the camera and will sacrifice a little battery. But I just want a smaller phone with satellite sos. Yes I’m one of those mini people. Kinda bummer they increased the size of the regular iPhone again too! So I see the air appeal I get it. I was an early MacBook Air adapter with the warm processor that slows down and people had to mod it to cool the cpu, but man was it nice to carry around in school back in 2008. I wanna see the air in store but it’s definitely apple experimenting and hopefully expanding this design later on in 4 year or so. Thin iPhone 22!

I frankly have the 15 in MacBook Air and love it. Again it originated from that early wing shaped computer Steve pulled from an envelope. Exciting times.

It is not light at all, it is just 5% lighter than the 17 Base but lack so many things of 17 Base.

Completely agree! I think the Air will be very popular with the people who mostly use their iPhone for calls, texting and email type of functions. I know plenty of people who only take an occasional picture and don’t play games. They aren’t using their iPhone constantly so battery life of the Air would be plenty. I think it’s impressive that Apple can make an iPhone that thin yet so functional.

And the 16e is basically the same weight as the Air. (Not to mention the mini which is 13% lighter.) If you primarily care about weight and not about a larger screen, the Air isn’t very interesting.

The Air including camera is also thicker at 11.32 mm than the 16e (9.48 mm).

Bigger issue about internet discourse in general, doesn’t seem like people can fathom that others have a different viewpoint or preference.

I, for one, love what the Air is offering. While 1 speaker is definitely a bummer, the compromised battery life is not an issue for me. I work from home and my phone sits on a charger while I’m working. Don’t really need to rely on battery power until after I’m done for the day or for weekends. Totally understand if the compromises don’t work for everyone though, it’s not a phone meant for everyone. Gotta get what works for you!

We shall see regarding sales. It's a very gimped device for a first generation. There really is no excuse for a single camera and speaker when we see what the S25 Edge is capable of.

I think future Air's have a lot of potential. I think this first rendition leaves a lot to be desired.

Anyone think the air is a precursor for a foldable in the next year? Certainly thin enough. Would be an instant buy for me if they make it, but for now ill stick with my mini. I love being able to drop it in any pocket and not notice it. One thing that would make me upgrade on size is a foldable.

I’m getting the Air for the lighter weight. The Pro Max bothers my wrists. I’m hoping the Air will feel more comfortable to use.

While I don’t live on my phone 24/7 I don’t think my daily use will change at all, although if it’s much more comfortable maybe I’ll use it more? According to the battery stats I average about 3 hours of screen time per day so the smaller battery should not be an issue for me at all.

The thicker than 16e part is unacceptable since thickness is the only unique selling point of Air

I like the larger screen. I like the A19 Pro. I like the thinness.

• The iPhone Air is not a "new form factor," it is just a bit thinner. Made thinner by compromises like less speakers, less cameras, less battery capacity, etc.
• So in many ways you are paying $619 to downgrade.
• That said, IMO the iPhone Air looks excellent so far, a great product for Apple to add to its iPhone product mix and it will sell well.
