Hi, since upgrading to ios14 on both my 11pro max and now my 12pro I’ve noticed the really useful people recognition in my photos app isn’t working

I used to be able to swiped up on any photo and would see People assigned to faces, or add them if they were unrecognised

now when I swipe up I just get a map and caption option

also my people album gives me a “0 photos scanned” message when I enter it.
How can I switch this back on or is it an option no longer offered 😩

From my experience, the People feature doesn't sync with iCloud in quite the same way that basically every other piece of photo data syncs. A lot of the tagging/processing happens when charging over night. Not sure how new your phone is but I would give it a few days of over night charging to see if anything changes. If you've had your phone for a while already, then you might want to call Apple Support. They helped me through a similar problem recently.

I am having this exact same problem on an iPhone Xs Max. Was this problem ever resolved?
