If they had repaired permissions weekly, this wouldn't have happened.

Maybe they should drag com.apple.elevator.plist to the Desktop to see if that helps things.

Where is good elevator tech support when you really need it?

Did anybody see the SNL skit about people trapped on an escalator, convinced there was no way out until rescuers arrived? It was hilarious. This incident had the same feeling of silliness to it, even though in this case it was real and must have been very unpleasant for the trapped shoppers.

Apple really should have compensated those people, even if just for the good publicity or lessening of bad publicity.

So i was browsing around on google about this subject when i came across this forum. i thought you should all know, i was one of the people on that trip, i got out of the elevator before it shut and wouldn't open, but that was my school group that was there and that it happened to. it was really cool and funny. if you have any questions, ask away!

What kind of school group was it?

What did you and others who didn't get stuck do while waiting for those that did get stuck?

What did those who got stuck tell you about the experience later?

Did any of them get interviewed by the media?

Did Apple explain what happened? Did they apologize or make any other nice gestures? Do you think they handled it as well as they could?

Will you ever go back there?

I noticed that c|net, in all their fabulousness, decided to take a shot at this situation as evidence of a buggy Apple product. Of course, the Mac-o-lytes shot back, feeding the fire.

I wonder if the transparency of the elevator is adjustable.

did they try ctrl-alt-del ?

travelling in the school elevator the other day, i was wondering about the reliability of having such an odd cylindrical elevator. good to know my intuitions were right that it wouldn't work reliably.

That would be horrible.

It's one thing being stuck in a normal elevator, but a glass one eww. With everyone looking at you and if you were there for a really long time you wouldn't even be able to take a piss without people watching you. Luckily they were only there for 45 minutes though.

Sounds more like Tupperware, right? A place for storing humans or something.

Can anyone offer me any advice how to get stuck in that same elevator when I visit NYC in November? Thanks!
Yeah, good idea. With the right kind of sabotage, you could create a fake emergency, trapping you in the elevator, and then hope Apple will reward you for your terrible inconvenience afterward!

Or make a deal ahead of time with some other company. Once you are trapped, and tourists and reporters are snapping photos of you trapped in there, pull out your "Sony Connect - the proper way to buy music!" sign and earn a big payment from Sony's advertising department. Just make sure to get out of there quickly as soon as the doors open!

I can see the commercial now...
People trapped in the glass elevator, all are bored and upset... one pulls out an iPod and rocks away... the fire dept. opens the doors but he wont come out... having too much fun.

Either that or Steve shows up and presses the red button. The elevator shoots into the sky and they fly to cupertino for a magical adventure.
