I try my best to designate "house shoes" vs "outside shoes" but honestly I forget a lot of the time. I work from home and I don't go out much so, it doesn't bother me as much.

I DO make an effort to clean my shoes if I go anywhere particularly nasty, for example our local dog bar. When I come home from there my shoes go straight into the wash.

Ever step on one barefoot? You would know - having kids with legos, it turns your floor into a mind field :p
Quite true. The small square pieces of Legos can cause a lot of pain when stepped on. The tendency for most people is to scream in pain, or to swear in anger. I imagine that if children are around it would most prudent to scream loudly than to swear, but.....😇

An interesting thread.

Anyway, as a child, we were encouraged to wear slippers indoors by my father; my mother never did so.

As an older child, teenager and adult, I no longer did so, and do not do so, as I deeply dislike it.

We never took shoes off at the door when I was growing up, unless it was wet or snowy outside or the shoes were especially dirty such as after cutting the grass or walking in mud that packed in the lugs on the soles. I still don't take my shoes off immediately when entering my apartment, unless they're exceptionally wet or dirty, but I do remove them and put them in my closet within a few minutes unless I'll be going out again shortly but I'm still walking through to the bedroom to do so. If I'm not leaving at all during the day - barefoot. If I step outside for something or to chat with a neighbor - slip on rubber-soled slippers (which are also used to go down to the laundry area when I'm doing laundry or into the garage if I need something from the car).

I offer to take my shoes off if I go to someone's house. I even offer to take them off (or start taking them off) if I'm going to my parents' house (still the same house I grew up in) and it's wet out but they often stop me and tell me not to bother.

I guess we're 'barbaric', and I didn't even grow up on a farm as @BotchQue did. In fact - where I grew up was considered somewhat affluent at the time, and it's still no run-down area.

Prior to Covid and working from home, I only wore my slippers indoors.
But, then I started working from home; been doing it for almost 3 years. With that, I started to dress as if I was going in the office, and often at lunch, I would dash out for a bit (fresh air and sunshine, and all that).

Being dressed 'properly' and with shoes on already, allowed me to just leave, and not have to worry about going an putting shoes on...

My husband had a pair of sneakers for inside the house only due to really bad planters fasciitis. He needed the support and the extra insoles because the pain was becoming unbearable.

In the winter I often wear slippers that look like shoes. My feet are pretty much always cold so I need the extra help in the winter especially.
