I got the 13 Pro with pledge I’ll hold on to it for year then give it away, silently hoping 14 "Pro" will finally get USB-C.

Silly me. Bigger sensors and slightly larger battery are always welcome, an upgrade no doubt. I will get it. Let’s say I won’t to be very enthusiastic about it.

Imagine the day you can charge your iPhone, iPad, Mac and Airpods with single brick and cable. The day you can use your Mac and iPad USB-C dongles, the day you can quickly copy your camera footage to an external SSD ready to edit it on Mac or iPad. The day they go portless they lose will more than this one customer. Luckily I live in EU where common sense decides what’s good for the environment and the customer.

The rumors are pointing out to USB-C being introduced in 2023 iPhones, not this year. I have a 12 PM which is still as great as when I got it, so I already don't plan to upgrade this fall. But if rumors about a USB-C iPhone 15 are true, I may upgrade (not only for the port, but along other features that I'm missing now like Promotion display and better cameras).

I plan one keeping my 13 PM for awhile yet. I kept my 7 Plus for 5 years so no reason why I can't keep my 13 PM at least 3-4 even if I have to buy adaptors which I presume will be available for awhile yet even after the switch.

I will be seriously considering the 14 Pro when it is introduced in September as an upgrade to my Day 1 12 Mini. If the 14 Pro gets usb c then that’s great, but if it doesn’t then it wont really make any difference to my decision. There are some articles saying that adding USB C to the iPhone 15, will make all the previous lightning iPhones become worthless which is complete nonsense in my opinion.

I kept my 6+ for 7 years before moving on to 13, so obviously I can hold out if the new features don't impress me. I'll take a 'wait and see' attitude on iPhone 14.

I don't think we will see a USC-B on an iPhone 14. Since the industrial design has already been finalized. USC-C will be here for iPhone 15. We still are almost 1 1/2 years away.
I mean the alternative title could have been "Now it’s widely known the iPhone 14 won’t get USB-C, will you still upgrade to it?"

I will wait till iPhone 15 of 2023. I am on iPhone 12 btw. Apart from piss poor battery quality, it won't drastically slow down to warrant an upgrade this year.

i have a few Mcdodo USB-C to Lightning adaptors... so it doesnt really matter if the next iPhone uses USB-C or Lightning.

Wife and I were planning to upgrade this year from our XS Max and XR. Would really like to move to all USB-C but don’t want to wait another year. Some years back we were happy to get everything to lightning connections then the iPad switched that for us.

Want to get rid of my huge box of micro and mini USB, Lightning, and USB-C cables. Then the issue with USB-A to USB-C vs USB-C to USB-C.

The only device I own that has USB-C is my Google Pixel 3a XL.

Last payment on my iPhone 11 Pro Max (my current phone) will be March 2023.

No plans to upgrade to the 14. Currently no plans to upgrade to the 15 either. Maybe the 16. We'll see.

I'd like whatever phone I get next to have ports that make sense, like USB-C or a headphone jack, but I have no plans to upgrade unless my 6S is beyond repairing.

Very happy with my 13PM. I will patiently wait for 15 ♥︎

Will be ordering the 15 once the hype dies down around Feb. Perfect timing for me to upgrade.

Are we 100% certain this year's iPhone won't get type C? Think about it. The EU are forcing apple to move to the connector, and that directive is already happening soon. Like, probably within the next 6 months. Why would Apple release a lightning iPhone this year, only to have to refresh it in 6 months to comply with the new law? Also, with rumours saying this year's iPhone will get 8k video recording, USB 2 lightning speeds on the pro models make no sense whatsoever. It's already too slow with 4k.

It's a really tough decision to me whether I'll upgrade. I'm rocking an iPhone X, battery isn't what it used to be and I really want an upgrade, but type C FINALLY coming to the iPhone is the only thing I really want. However, I also think it's silly to base buying decisions based on rumours, since there's always the chance Apple will instead ditch the port entirely and go wireless.

You can't just go USB-C without letting the entire supply chain know. Apple builds 70-80 million new iPhones for launch each year. Those chips and connectors come from somewhere. It's impossible for Apple to keep such a secret.

EU legislation wouldn't kick in without a ramp up period. And Apple could easily comply with the legislation by removing the Lightning port all together and allowing wireless charging only.

The law will only apply to new models that get released after the law comes into effect. It won't mean that Apple have to pull existing models from the shelves because they don't have USB-C.

100% agree but I think Apple will come up with dongle style connector so other people are not feeling out casted.

Not true because none of that has been finalized. Right now, the proposed Directive applies to all devices being shipped in the EU and manufacturers will have 24 months to enact the change. This means existing non-USB-C products being sold will need to be redesigned.

In fact, Apple's official response is that they hope the EU will allow existing non-USB-C devices to be sold to avoid waste.

Assuming my 11 Pro Max remains trouble free, I'll probably hang onto it for another year so I can get the USB-C iPhone in 2023.

I'm already keeping it three years at least, what's another year if it works great? Also by then 5G chipsets will be more mature and power efficient I'm sure.

So you willing to take the chance on a possible new apple modem in the iPhone 15 ? Along with USB-C

Big Pink (TMO) provided a USB-C-to-Lightening for my 13 (including the block), and the Apple Store provided USB-C to USB-C for my Air. I still have all of the extra lightening cables from my old 8 Plus, including blocks. I plan on keeping the 13 and the Air for at least 5 years (I kept the 8+ for 4, so I want to break my PR lol) so they can do whatever they want until 2027!

I was going to upgrade this year, but a phone with usb-c is very tantalising. People are saying usb-c cables and connections are not great, but that has not been my experience, whereas I will be pleased to say goodbye to Lightning forever. However, if usb-c is introduced next year, that will make my XS Max five years old. It still seems good right now, but another 18 months? I don't know. Having seen my wife's usb-c iPad Pro, though, I don't want another Lightning phone
