Hey all,

I know a lot of you have decided to preorder a new iPhone in the 512GB configuration. I am curious why you decided to choose that storage level.

For me personally the 128GB model is more than enough. I use Spotify for all of my music, download a generous amount of apps and games, and take thousands of pictures. Even with this I won't even come close to approaching the 128GB storage limit.

I'm just genuinely curious why in the world you would need so much space? It seems like an absurd amount of memory unless you plan on taking tons of 4K videos.

Thanks!

Same here, 512GB is overkill. That's even more space than my MacBook alone. Hahah. 256GB is more than enough for me, and my previous iPhone was 64GB. Thats still 4x more. But I guess those who want 512GB have money to burn, or have need the space for insanely large music/photo/media libraries or do a lot of photography and record a lot of video.

My last iPhone had 64GB. It would drive me nuts when I would bump up against the storage capacity, as occasionally I would shoot a very long video or not have had cleared out my podcasts in a while. That being said, I can count on one hand the number of times that happened, but I did opt for 256GB with my current phone. However, I can't even imagine hitting that number any time soon.

I've used 100GB on my current X, so 256 is a nice safe spot for me where I don't have to worry about filling it up.

I imagine some people put tons of movies, apps, photos, and backups of older iPhones throughout the years which all takes up a lot of space, thus the 512.

I ordered a 512 XS Max. I've got a 256 X now and 'only' have 60 gigs of space left. I've had iPhones since day 1 in 2007 and have 13,000 photos, 1,000 songs, and 1,400 videos on my phone going back nearly a decade. Guess I'm in the minority here but I like to keep/save all my pictures/videos/music on my actual phone and not having to use weird Cloud services to see/access my photos/videos. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I don’t need 512 now. But if I was back in the lifestyle where I was travelling for extended periods of time I would probably want that.

512GB is the ultimate storage at this age. I can fill it with several movies, tv shows, etc which I can enjoy whenever WiFi or cellular connection is not available or off line As you know, free WiFi is hackable. The extra storage can be used for other emergency things also. There is never too much storage, which makes its usage longer.

Below 512 GB can be useful but at some points, it has its limits. 64, 128 and 256 GB are ancients and obsolete. You will see what I am saying eventually especially when the technology is getting more advanced. iCloud is helpful but not helpful when there is no WiFi or cellular connection. Free Wifi cannot be relied on the security due to extremely vulnerable risks of getting hacked when you use it.

512 GB is also the first highest storage in the iPhone history. Having it is a pride for all of us who are fortunate to be able to have it.

Exactly, same reason I went with 256.

the 64 just isn't enough and 512 is just way too much for my needs however not judging because others might actually need the 512 especially if they're heaving in to 4K video recording.

Yea I didn’t want 64gb and stress out. I would have been happy with a 128gb but there was no option so 256gb it is.
