Sprint is great in WI

can't go wrong with unlimited LTE at a decent price
I wish I could say the same here.

I'd love to keep my plan and stay on Sprint. Unfortunately, 0.5 to 3mbps on LTE is just not going to cut it.

I've had VoLTE working (Los Angeles area) since day 1 of receiving my iPhone 6 Plus (which was like a week or so after launch).

I realize this. I am saying that not everywhere with LTE has VoLTE active. Obviously if your area does, my 'until then" statement doesn't apply. :)

There are places AT&T has VoLTE live as well. MOST people on LTE don't fall into that category, on either network.

T-Mobile is the carrier to be on in America right now. Avoid Sprint at ALL costs.

This thread shows the typical: we treat our cell carriers about as rabidly as some people cling to their religions. Each will defend their choice vigorously. Why? Because people don't want to be feel like a fool for paying money to the carrier of their choice, when someone might suggest an alternative is better.

A couple years ago, T-Mobile wouldn't have even been considered an option by me. Now, I'm on T-Mobile after 7 years of AT&T (before that: 8 increasingly miserable years of Sprint).

There are definite coverage holes with T-Mobile, but I've seen improvements and I'm encouraged by that. T-Mobile is pretty good for a lot of people, worth the cost, and will only get better. Just a few years ago, AT&T was performing a lot worse than T-Mobile does today. And considering I'm paying about half what I used to pay on AT&T, I can deal with that.

WiFi calling also helps. And I don't care how good your coverage is, claiming that WiFi calling isn't necessary is silly and backward-thinking. No carrier should be allowed to get away with not rolling it out. Same goes for VoLTE.

Lastly, Sprint is bad... been bad for a long time. But I would really be happy to see them improve. I'm pessimistic it would happen, but if they do get better, it will be great for everyone all around, just as T-Mobile market-moving efforts have been great even for AT&T customers who wouldn't dream of switching.

Are Verizon phones compatible overseas? ATT is GSM, while Verizon made the wrong choice with CDMA. Have they fixed that?

All iPhone 6/Plus models have both CDMA and GSM radios. In fact, if you take a Verizon iPhone 6 and an AT&T iPhone 6 apart, you would't be able to tell the difference between the two. They are exactly the same on the inside.

The iPhone 6, on Verizon or not, will work fine overseas.

In Verizon's defense (and I rarely defend Verizon), the decision to go CDMA was made in a time when GSM technology was a lot less developed than it is today, and CDMA looked far superior. It was also backward-compatible with analog cellular, which the US had tons of. So at the time it was the right decision. No so much now, and Verizon is fixing that with LTE.

AT&T and a current model iPhone have been my choice since 2008. During that period I've enjoyed excellent service from both companies.

It should be noted that if you wanted an iPhone, back in 2008 you had no choice but to go with AT&T. And, how quickly we forget the 3G network debacle of 2008-2011.

Just figured I'd mention it's already up in Los Angeles in case anyone's from there and considering switching from AT&T to Verizon. I actually have service with both AT&T (4x iPhones, 1x iPad) and Verizon (3x iPads, 1x iPhone). Unfortunately, neither carrier has bulletproof coverage but I find having both, at least one of them has service in the places I've been to.

No worries. Someone asked if the "problem" was solved and I tried to answer simply and truthfully as I was able. I got a few responses back saying "but it works for me" and I figured that might be confusing to the person originally asking the question. Unfortunately it is not as simple to the end user (yet) as "if I have LTE I also can talk and surf at the same time". I have no doubt that within a year or so everywhere with LTE will fit that category.

FWIW I never really cared for talking and surfing on AT&T because surfing was always much slower while on a call (and continues to be so). I have not had the pleasure of trying VoLTE, as I am not in a market that supports it yet, so I can't comment on whether that has been improved upon or not. I have also read about people getting dropped calls (something I have not experienced on AT&T for years now), so I am not looking forward to going back to that if I am not forced to!

Who, in this thread, is defending "their" carrier in such a way? I am reading pretty neutral comments, moreso than most such threads lol.

I think I may know to who you are referring ;D

The interesting thing about this is that AT&T will often give you a free mifi if you have bad reception at home. It would seem to me that just turning on wifi calling would make more sense as there would be no loss in "free" hardware to the customer. The customer is also not inconvenienced with having to deal with setting up a special router just to be able to make phone calls.

Nope, wouldn't for me either. Only places I really struggle is the area I hunt in. and my fellow friends I go with have VzN and of course get LTE there.

but basically everywhere else I got from day to day I average 5-10mbps and have seen up to 25 in other areas.

I've seen up to 19mbps down. Sprint has upgraded towers here, just not the towers I use the most.

Our problem in the PHX market is that every damn thing is waiting on fiber backhaul to be delivered and hooked up. That's the vendor's fault, but I fault Sprint because they never put in incentives or penalties in the vendor contracts. So, the vendors are doing this whenever they feel like it. Further, Sprint, when it started NV buildout decided to go with a 'just in time" approach for backhaul.

Sprint never anticipated that there would be delays and the whole house of cards fell down flat when there was.

I've never "loved" Sprint or been religious about it. I've been banned on the Sprint BAW community and have been hassled because of a perception of negativity about Sprint. But, I really would have loved it if Sprint had managed to pull this off here. Slow data is the only reason I'm leaving. Voice is still very good and I don't get dropped calls or missing text messages. But data is what I use a lot and sometimes depend on. When I don't get it when I need it and I've paid for it - I'm not happy. And I express that.

A lot apparently. :D

I am with AT&T and have no immediate plans to leave. Now that they've doubled the data from 10gb to 20gb, I feel that it's a good deal. I'm paying $110 before taxes (20% FAN discount). T-Mobile needs to work on the building penetration issues and also covering the U.S. highways. They're still bad in those areas.

Yeah all LTE Verizon phones are unlocked, but their calling radios I do not know about. I know with the iPhones starting with the 5, they have been GSM unlocked (since LTE is GSM) and can even be moved to a GSM domestic carrier like AT&T with no problem.

We've had Verizon for just over 2 decades (since PacTel) and their service has always been superb in Southern California, although I have been hearing good things about T-Mobile. AT&T only works reliably around the freeways and highways out here in the suburbs, and Sprint is just downright terrible. T-Mobile is a good value for the coverage IMO and I have been thinking about picking up a SIM card to test their network and see how I like it.

Other then cost, Verizon has been great. I average on LTE speeds about 20Mbps down and 10 up, with it hitting as high as 80Mbps down and 40 up. VoLTE calling is very reliable and I have been using since I got my iPhone 6 Plus on launch day.

Seriously saying sprint is terrible or awful is getting rather old...
Its not like a couple years ago anymore.

I started out with AT&T, then Verizon, then Straight Talk. I went back with AT&T when the iPhone 5 was introduced and have stuck with them ever since.

Sprint here! Been with them for 15 years and have never had any problems! I travel all over the U.S. And service is great!

And yet is is…

I've got over two years of speed tests that show the same numbers and less…much less.

There are peaks (19mbps+ down being the fastest). But if you were to look at my entire results list you'd see it's an extreme minority.

I don't disagree that Sprint is better in a lot of places. But it's still not better in some of the SAME places either.

That's good to hear. I've also been with Sprint for 15+ years. Service unfortunately is NOT great in Phoenix, Arizona.

T-mobile if you want decent coverage and the best rates. Verizon if service coverage is the most important thing. Sprint is at the bottom and ATT is stuck between verizon and t-mobile. They are expensive and offer nothing over verizon.
Faster, talk and data, gsm SIM cards, better resell value, cheaper than Verizon. Honestly unless u don't get att coverage i don't know why you would choose Verizon.

With Verizon everywhere that they have LTE has VoLTE live. I believe it's only AT&T who's doing their rollout on a market by market basis. It's still not as reliable as have HSPA+ as a fallback though as many on Verizon are reporting dropped calls because when the LTE connection is lost, so is the call. With T-Mobile and AT&T if a VoLTE customer leaves an LTE area then the call remains connected because they use HSPA+ as a fallback.

Verizon offers no value for me. Don't need coverage in the flyover states of middle America and they don't offer any good data plans. I prefer T-Mobile for the plans/perks they offer. AT&T would be my second choice if I had to choose someone else. Would never use Sprint. The network is just too poor almost everywhere it seems.

Sprint sucks in Phoenix what can I say? For you its terrible for me it's the same as att and Verizon

Not much. :)

My point is that while I acknowledge that Sprint is better than it used to be in a lot of places, there are (and I am not saying you are one of them) Sprint users out there who assume because they get good service that Sprint is great everywhere.

It's not. Sprint is like the other carriers. Good in some places, middling in others and crap in others.

I have AT&T, and I hate them. The service is ok, but the customer service and pricing is just outrageous! I will be going over to T-mobile when my contract is up :D

What I don't like is T-Mobile data needs to be ON for me to receive voicemail. My cousin is on ATT, and she doesn't have data and can access voicemail via wi-fi.

I had the exact opposite experience. On AT&T, I never got visual voicemail if data was off. On T-Mobile with WiFi calling enabled and data off, visual voicemail works fine.

WiFi calling (no more dropped calls) plus triple the data speed over AT&T in my area, plus T-Mobile's $30 prepaid plan which cut my bill by 60%...switching was a no-brainer for me. But I rarely travel outside my local area.

Switched from Sprint to T-Mobile and couldn't be any happier. Sprints data speeds in the Metro Detroit area are horrible. T-Mobile's 4G (HSPA+) is faster than Sprints LTE, I get LTE with T-Mobile everywhere I go. I'm paying $30 less than I was with Sprint too!
