even in London sometimes is hard to find EDGE. You are jumping from one thing to another like a frog. Is 3G coverage any better? If not, what's the point? I guess that the 3G iPhone will add other improvements and the current iphone will become the cheap one

I don't think anyone thinks 3G is a BAD thing, but I think your need for it depends alot on your location. I don't have any 3G access here, so it's not going to do me any good for a long time. Once 3G is more available, or if you are lucky enugh to live in a 3G supported area, I think it will be a no brainer...

I can certainly see why those of you who have 3G availability in your area would want a 3G iPhone ASAP!

Let the engineers do their jobs, if all they did was compare spec sheets to make decisions then you'd be working for Apple too.

I know almost nothing about the 3G v EDGE technologies, but this argument is completely inane. Its not like business considerations are any part of what comes out of Apple engineering.

Apple will release 3G because its inevitable, but only when they are both technically ready and when its right for the business (of making money) to do so. The reasons they give us until then may be true or false but the business strategy is as important as what the real or perceived value for the customer may be.
