Im looking to buy a new iMac, so I thought I would do a little research and look up the real world performance of each of the new iMacs. In almost all the tests there is less than a 10% difference in the results and obviously there is a significant difference in price from the best model to the base model.

Im going to be doing some pretty basic HD video editing, maybe some minor effects with after effects, some photoshop and simple gaming. Im happy with a 21" screen, is it really worth going for anything other than the base model? HD space is not an issue as I have a 4TB external HD and the raw performance doesn't seem that different?

Depends on how you value your time. Depending on the size of your projects, the difference in time will probably be small. Probably seconds/minutes in most cases.

Value

I do value my time but I also value my money, and just don't think it seems worth it. I can't see how it's worth it for most ppl either. The depreciation seems to be much less on the base models too.

Is there any situation where the top model significantly outperforms the base
