Windows Performance Issues Booting from External Drive?

Hey Guys. My 27" iMac (3.5 i7 8Gb RaM GTX 780M 4Gb), arrives today, so I've been running through some scenarios in my head.

I would like to do some light gaming on the side. I however, do not want to allocate a bunch of space on my internal drive for a windows installation. So I was thinking about installing windows on an external drive and booting into windows from that drive, just for gaming purposes. Does anyone have any experience with this?

I will be running the external installation via USB3

Well I know Windows doesn't normally support it...

looks like there may be some ways to get it to work, even though MS doesn't support it.

The method you link to is still using a 20GB partition on your main drive.
