Let me first say, that I dont game.. at all. I'm looking to get a MBP today, but dont know what to go for. Is it better to go for a MBP (and hence the discrete graphics card), or to buy a highend macbook, and spend the cash in upgrading ram to 8gb. I'm gonna be using VMware/Parallels , so I was wondering if I bought the 8gb of ram, then I would be able to dedicate a couple of gigs to vmware itself. But then again, would a pro be a better investment (GPU, snow leopard, etc)

So what would be faster, A macbook with 8gb of ram, or a pro with 4gb?

And what would be a better investment?

They can't manage 8GB now (6 seems to work fine), and we don't know if the new ones will be able to, either.

And who says that Snow Leopard won't work well on a MacBook?

Also, DO NOT BUY TODAY BEFORE THE KEYNOTE. Just making sure you knew.

id go with a macbook with the ram upgraded via third party

it would be significantly cheaper as well. i would also get an external monitor for a dual setup while based at home

there are rumors that the mb will get a dedicated graphics card as well so may hold off after they announce them tomorow

Yeah, I'm waiting.

So, assuming the new ones manage 8gb, or even 6gb, what is a better bet? Snow Leopard will work well on a Macbook, I have no doubt, but isnt it supposed to take advantage of GPU's to perform other tasks as well? So if the pro has a discrete GPU, as compared to an integrated one for the macbook, wont snow leopard increase performance of the pro significantly more than the macbook?

What would you do? If you werent a gamer...

I'm waiting. I dont think the macbooks will get a dedicated graphics card, I think they'll get a much better integrated one than the current intel ones.

I dont need an external monitor, atleast now, as I might be moving to another country in a few months. Do you think the performance of a macbook with 8gb ram will be comparable to that of a pro with 4gb ram?

I have another question (didnt want to create a whole new thread for that, and couldnt find it on search)

Can I use the same vista cd key for bootcamp as well as parallels? They will be running on the same hardware, and they can never run at the same time?
