Any else having a problem with periodically losing their network connection on their new iMac? Basically not working properly with your router?

I've narrowed the problem down to the router by connecting directly to the modem and using PPPoe, which works fine.

I had a dlink router which I thought was causing this. Whenever I would use the new iMac I would lose the internet periodically (on my whole network). It would take about 5 minutes to return.

I bought a new linksys router WRT120N to replace the dlink and the problems continue but the internet now only goes out long enough to disconnect my instant messengers and interrupt my streams. Just a little blip. I updated the firmware on the router which I thought worked (ran flawlessly for two days) but now the problem is back.

I'm just wondering if I'm the only one suffering from this or has it been happening to others. It's rather annoying.

    Thanks.

What model modem, and who is your ISP? It likely has a status page on some IP address like 192.168.100.1 that could give you some insight. My Motorola and Westell modems have logs that might detail events like those you are experiencing.

You say it took 2 days for the problem to manifest itself with the new router - did you have the modem hooked up directly to your computer for this long or longer?

I'll have to check the model number of the modem when I get home (provider is Bell Canada) though the internet always worked fine until I got my new iMac. I feel its a compatibility issue between the iMac and the routers.

When I bought the new linksys router the problem was still there (though the connecting came back right away, unlike the long waits with the dlink). After I upgraded the firmware I thought the problem was fixed as it went away for two days (connected both wireless and wired). The problem is back again with the disconnection happening about every 30 minutes.

There's a compatability problem with my d-link ( DSL-G604T ) and my iMac. I went to run Skype and got a little note pop up telling me the router wasn't a happy camper and couldn't do the job. I didn't make a note of the note hence the vague technical description.

Downloading data and accessing emails seems to be slower. I haven't looked for a solution yet because I've been far too busy.

Well I was hoping this was a more widespread problem. Anyone have their new iMac working successfully with a WRT120N ?

Mine sometimes looks like it loses connection. A basic web page will just sit there and load for up to a minute until i shut off airport and restart it. The weird thing is that it is only with safari. My downloads are not affected.

I loose internet connection or am unable to connect to my wireless internet on my brand new iMac i7 whenever i start up the machine or switch to bootcamp. I had no problems in the beginning and now i have to spend about 3 - 5 min each time to gain connection after a series of shutting down and starting the wireless adaptor.
