Drink hot green tea with no sugar or cream throughout the cycle. This will reduce the bleeding.

But by your description, she will need Aleve, Tylenol or Ibuprofen for fast relief.

I was going to suggest orgasms, esp. as it was a mad jew thread, but I see that's already been taken care of (well, mentioned). And all the diet/exercise stuff was also mentioend. So I guess my second best recommendation would be to get her pregnant.

I'm suprised no one has said this yet:

If your housemate is having heavy and painful periods, she should go and see a doctor.

Seriously... heavy and painful periods can be indication of a number of health problems....not necessarily cancer, but other conditions that could compromise your housemate's health or future fertility. There's endometriosis, fibroids, cysts... a whole slew of things....

Oh...and if your housemate has gone to the doctor & they've tried treating her...and it didn't work, tell her to ask for another test... like an ultrasound to see what's going on in there....

It depends on how much pain she's in and whether she has the same level of pain every period. Certain birth control pills can help make periods less painful, but that is for women who have sever pain every period. Otherwise, Ibuprofen seems to work well for most women I know (my wife sometimes takes a prescribed large dose - 800mg - when the pain is unbearable).

How about Depo shots?

I know this won't help for this month's period but one of the side effects of Depo is to reduce the length and severity of a woman's period.

(Knowledge compliments of my nurse girlfriend - part of her job is birth control counseling and she happens to take Depo herself.)

mad jew

You're a genius. This is a surefire way to find out who here is female! You sneaky sneaky person...

Everybody Else

I know nothing about this topic.

as others have suggested, birth control pills might help. i know a couple girls who do, and they've told me it decreases periods, makes them more regular and lessens overall pain/cramping.

I thought... yea... Mad Jew. Probably writing about punctionation and intending to get people in by making them think it's the menstrual cycle...

Caroline just has a tub of ice cream, rings up and shouts at me. I don't get the logic but it works for her!

edit: IJ Reilly got there before me!

That shot can be an absolutely nightmare for many women. It can often make matters so much worse and cause a whole new set of issues as well. I'll spare the details for everyones sake. Suffice to say that a huge dose of a male hormone (it is progesterone only) is not always the best plan for a good amount of women out there.

That one shot made my life hell for almost a year, and I've found out that I am very much NOT alone in that.

I just wanted to very strongly advise against it.

Fantastic advice. Thanks all. :)

This is in fact my housemate, so the orgasm thing might be a bit tricky, even with my sexy wink. (as in wink, like closing one eye at a time - it's sexy and you know it). She's seen a doctor and has a bit of a problem but it's getting sorted. I've just been wondering how I can make it more comfortable for her in terms of foods and so on. Everything so far's been fantastic. Thanks. :)

We can put tape over your mouth so that she doesn't have to put up with you AND deal with her period at the same time.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

^^^He probably couldn't. :p

Poor girl. He tries very hard, though, so you can't blame him. :(

HEHEHEHEHEHEHE!
