On both my iPhone and iPad, Messages never asked for permission to share my Focus Status. So it does not appear in the list of allowed apps.
Anyone else with the same problem?
Aby way to force the app to ask for permission?

Check Settings > Messages

It should have a toggle for Focus there which also should be auto-enabled (at least was on my test device). Don‘t think Messages asks for permission to use the Focus status, at least I don‘t recall seeing such a request.

Messages will share your focus status by default.

Third party apps will have to request permission.

The only permission that Apple apps request for is location - otherwise they have all the permissions they need (unless they otherwise give an option to disable it).

Thanks. No such setting there on my devices.

Screenshot someone sent me of Settings -> Privacy -> Focus. Messages appears there on her iPhone. But don’t see it there on mine.
🤷🏼‍♂️

For mine (12 ProMax beta 3) I do not have anything listed under Focus. However under Privacy > Focus I have the option to turn On Messages. The default was Off.
So to clarify: when you go to Focus -> (name of focus) -> Focus Status, there is no mention of Messages there?

I might have missed something... but is it just me or is it kind of frustrating that you can't enable it on a per contact basis? When you give messages permission, it defaults to sharing with every contact and there is no way to toggle the default to off like with Read Receipts. Feel like that is a big missing feature. Give app permission -> Default off -> enable for select contacts

Edit: maybe I should have started a new thread, shout if you think I should

I am on iOS 15 public release and experiencing exactly the same issue as the TO @MarkVeldhuis
Already re-installed and restored complete iOS from backup, issue persists.

Due to missing permissions for the messages app to read the focus status, my focus (or better: information that I have silenced notifications) is NOT shown to any other person. Checked this with the iPhones from three different people, nobody can see that I have muted notifications, although I am in sleep focus.

Vice versa all is fine, I can see anybody's focus status in messages.

Is there a fix for this?

Had a long chat and telephone call and remote session with Apple support today. None of the guys could do anything to solve this issue. They recommended to restore the iPhone from an iCloud backup instead from a locally stored backup, as there are some settings (they might cause this issue) not included in the iCloud backup.

Before restoring the iPhone they said I should set it up as new and first check if all is working fine and the messages app has permission to read the focus status, then in the next step I shall restore from iCloud backup.

I asked them for a profile they could send me which cleans up or resets all app permissions (not only location permissions), but they stated that they don't have such a profile.

Sounds clueless. Setting up as new and restoring is a long process with all banking apps, Apple pay cards, Apple Watch etc., so I will wait until 15.1 comes out. If I still have this problem after that, I might set it up as new.

Just wanted to let you know.
