Hi,

I've had my Mac for close to 2 months now and have been able to do most everything just fine. However, I have been wondering about things like the disk permissions, and disk utilities.

I really do not know what they are, and was wondering if I could get any help from you guys. Such things as any shareware/freeware programs I need, anything I need to setup or type in the Terminal, etc. etc.

I appreciate your help with this one, and all the other questions I have had.

I'd be glad to help. Disk permissions are a way for the unix part of OS X to remember who can and can't read, write, and execute any file. Sometimes different installers and programs can mess up these permissions which will cause problems for OS X. You can use the Disk Utility program, which is located in the Utilities folder of the Applications folder in your hard drive to repair these permissions to closer resemble the way they were when you got the computer.

These are some utilites to keep you Macintosh running in tip top order. Some are freeeware, some are not. MacJanitor & Cocktail.
