I see the benefits of photostream, especially for my wife and I as we can easily share photos that way. Confused however on how to go about syncing.

I still have all the photos on my iPhone, so do I just delete them? There going to be a ton of duplicates otherwise. Syncing seems needed as it does not do videos, and I need to get them off the phones.

Anyone got some insight?

You pretty much understand it.

Every so often I connect my iphone and get the videos off it. I don't bother too much with deleting pics/videos off the phone, unless I need space.

Photostream only holds 1000 photos for 30 days. If you delete the pictures you will lose them when they drop off of the photosream.

What are you using on the computer? iPhoto? iPhone can auto-import photos from PhotoStream into events, and when plugging in your phone it will only show photos and videos that aren't duplicates.

So iPhoto wont show duplicates of photos that you import from your iPhone if you already imported from photostream? There no documentation on this anywhere.

I do not see any duplicates. What it does, if I understand correctly, is that it allows you to see what photos are in your PhotoStream. If you right click and select show in library, then it shows you the photo under that specific event. In the case where you may have already imported it from your camera roll, it will show you the photo under that event. If the photo has not been imported from your camera roll, it will show it to you under "Month Year Photostream."
Personally, I still do not like many features of PhotoStream, especially the inability to delete individual photos.

This help alot an makes me feel so much better about the process.

Photostream will mature most likely like other Apple services 1)glacial pace 2) when their good and damn ready 3) new features are almost always worth the wait..
