Hi all,

I've bought a new mug for my wintery hot chocolates, and went to send a quick snap to a friend who loves mugs, but there's a quirk; the mug I have has a much wider base than top meaning it has angled sides, but the iPhone 16 Pro Max camera makes the sides straight up and down.

Is there a setting to stop the camera changing the style of the mug like this?

Have you tried taking a photo of the mug straight on? When you use the wider angle lenses (even on a real camera), distorition will make the object closest to the lens appear larger. My kids love to use the 0.5 lenses on their phones because they can make people into bobbleheads.

I suspect that is what is going on here; since the cameras are at the top of your phone, the top of the mug is closest to the lens, and you are getting some of that perspective distortion. If you take a photo of the mug straight on, the way it is in your store photo, I think you'll get more natural results. Also, use one of the longer lenses available in your phone, which should also help a bit, although you'll have to stand farther away.
