I don’t mind the notch aesthetically, but one great sacrifice is a persistent VPN icon (it comes and goes where the battery & wifi icons exist).

I would rather have a VPN icon than the clock, if I had to choose. Anyone know of a way to enable it always being present when connected to VPN? The issue is that if my VPN disconnects unexpectedly there is no way to know.

Yes I’d like that as well, as well as a single toggle switch I’m Control Center.

The only workaround I have found is to pull down the Control Center and the VPN icon shows when the VPN is connected.

Exactly. But this is not a good way to discover a connection has dropped, as there’s no way to know when it actually happens.

I found a slightly more convenient (still inconvenient) way to check. If you’re in any app and begin to swipe up (as if going to app switcher) it will show the VPN icon in the corner IF you’re still connected.

I just discovered this myself this morning when installing my VPN on my X. Hopefully this is something Apple will sort as I have had instances in the past when the VPN has dropped and only the icon alerted me to this.
