I have an iPod touch 4G on iOS 6 beta 4. In iOS 4 Apple introduced persistent wifi for iPod touch. Well it's not persistent for me. When I'm using the iPod touch, you can see the wifi icon on the status bar. Once I lock my iPod and click on the lock button again after a minute, the wifi icon is gone and comes back after 3 seconds. This is not persistent wifi. In iOS 5.1.1, whenever I press the lock button, I see the wifi bars even after an hour. What happened?

One more question. I receive iMessages late on iOS 5.x and iOS 6. I get the notification 10 minutes to 1 hour late. What is the problem? Is it my iPod or apples servers? It shouldn't come that late. When my friends tell me something that in should reply by 10 min, I reply after 1 hour since I get the messages late. Is there any Cydia tweak that will leave the messages app in background even after I remove it in the multitasking bar like FaceTime.

Down vote for this.

Have you tried setting up as a new iPod? Or perhaps the wifi is consistent but the icon behaviour has changed?

I haven't tried setting up as a new ipod. I don't think the wifi is consistent since I get imessages after I unlock my iPod.

Also when I have my iPod touch connected to my computer, the Wi-Fi stays on even when locked.

It's always been this way for me on iPod touch. Unless charging, WiFi only comes on every 15 minutes to update notifications.

Oh. I didn't know. Is there any way to keep it on even when it's locked? A Cydia tweak? Plist edit?

I have iOS 6 on my 4S and I have noticed this with the WiFi as well. Didn't really notice it on 5.1.1.

Maybe it is a BETA thing? Won't know till we get the GM release.

Yeah thats what I thought too...

I know persistent WiFi works on the iPhone 5.1.1 by turning off Cellular Data:
Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data (Off)

So I would assume it should be persistent with the iPod touch as well. I'll check it out on my iPod later tonight though since I don't have it with me.

Ok. Thank you. Post the results here.
