I created a simple shortcut (aka "personal automation") to append to a text file upon arrived at a geolocation, and was surprised it just gave me a popup notification I had to interact with in order to complete the task. Is this the case with all personal automations, or is it only for some that're deigned more sensitive (a la location-based ones)?

I tried a bunch of them... only one that I can set to not require confirmation is triggered from turning on airplane mode... everything else needs confirmation🤷‍♀️

The link @bripab007 provided seems to provide insight into the problem I have. On my iPad I have an automation to set do not disturb when I open various games. This runs automatically, which is great.

On my iPhone I have an automation to set do not disturb when I arrive at a place. With this I get a prompt to run. ‘Arrive’ is in the list of actions that cannot run automatically. I am not sure what Apple’s reasons are for this.

In my case the whole point of the automation is to set DND if I forget to when I arrive at this place. If I look at my phone when I arrive I’ve not forgotten.
