Thats exactly what I am planning to do.

I will be using my macbook pro for the duration of the school year, doing 2D work that isn't as graphically intense and I know my macbook pro can handle without a problem. What I am hoping this new machine will be is my transition multitasking phase.

By multitasking, I mean I will be doing batch jobs (leaving computer for 2-3 hours) to render, so I will leave the new computer to do all my 3D rendering, modelling and imagery work, and while I am waiting for this to be done (vray renderings on 3ds max lasting 4-5 hours) (4-5 on macbook pro, guessing 2 max on computer) i will be doing presentation preparation and graphic illustrator and photoshop work on the macbook pro MAC side.

This is the situation I am seeing occur at the end of my final year. I am leaving a high quality rendering to render on my workstation, taking for example 4-6 hours to complete. While I am waiting for it i can be developing and finalizing the posters and presentation that will be going together with the rendering. In the past I have been forced to wait for the macbook pro, and sit around sleeping or doing nothing as I wait.

That is the idea. Thanks for the help :)

If your going to have to use windows, I'd say just buy a dell or hp workstation (although I loathe hp, just my personal reasons). You can look around for Dell coupons for this month and look for a good deal.

FilipMil,

You said you from Canada? I am too and I've purchased all my stuff from ncix for years (do a google search). They are based in BC and have amazing selection and prices. You can build a computer with any components you want and they will put it together for you and test it for $50 if the price is below $2K CAD and free if it is over that.

I don't work for the company or have any affiliation, I am just a happy customer. They also do price matching and have an excellent forum in case you have questions.

I see everyone here saying to just get a PC, but there is one important question we should know before suggesting that. If you were to get a Mac Pro, how often do you see yourself using OS X?

Thanks, I will try ncix.

I have a macbook pro, so all the stuff that I will be doing on OSX will be on there. I wanted to get the mac pro because of its clean design and professional standards, and I really didnt want to build a pc by myself, there is no warranty or confirmation that it will work properly (noob never made a pc custom before) so getting a company to do it for me is my best bet.

A pc will be my choice, unless the mac pro comes out with more quadro options and comes out before september.
