I had the same dilemma and use my laptop for similar uses, as well as work which includes writing, remote support and web development.
Screen size and resolution was a factor for me, especially as my last laptop was a 15.4" with a 1680x1050 resolution, but as it turns out I am more than happy on my 13" MBP, I have just changed the way I work a little bit (as many people will end up doing anyway now that Apple is pushing full screen apps).
I did upgrade to 8gb RAM, which has made a huge difference, especially when running my Win7 VM.
I did look at the 15" as well, but when it came to it, the 13" just looked so much nicer and the extra portability is a plus.
I also agree with a previous poster that if you go for the 13", you then have half the money to put towards upgrading to a newer model in a couple of years
