Btw, breeders dont know much more than anyone else when its related to animals. Of course, there are exceptions and there must be some very good ones.

My girlfriend is a vet and she gave a conference to bird breeder a few months ago and she was surprised by their ignorance. They often use their own way to treat an animal rather than going to the vet. And their own way often look more like alchemy than medicine... But then again, maybe it was just a small group of breeders who were there and its not representative of the general market...

Anyways, if you want a pet, you can always go to the vet clinic and ask if they have a pet to give. They generally wont charge you anything for it and they will give you a detailed account of his health state. So its even better than going at the pound.

All of the dog breeders that I have come into contact with have been very knowledgeable about dogs. They take them to their vets and so already have a medical history about the dog when you pick it up. Breeders are in it for the love of their breed. Its not a money making proposition. They make sure they the animal is going into a good home or will refuse to sell the animal.
