I have a new one for me. 30+ years of macs I've never seen this.

In Displays control panel I have a phantom monitor shown attached. I have no such hardware connected. In the monitors menu bar option it appears to be suggesting its a projector. I dont even own such a thing.

I have deleted displays plist file and reset NVRAM to no avail. It may have cropped up after I had to disconnect the monitor from one GPU to another while the Mac was on.

It's mostly not an issue, I have it tucked off to the side and it doesnt interfere with operation of the mac. But I recently had a remote support guy (from Adobe in India) say he couldnt help me as the third monitor was messing with his remote support app.

A trick from way back you can try is to boot with no GPU attached to your mac. If you have ssh enabled, you can login to check that the mac has booted and then do a
Code:
sudo shutdown -r now

Thanks for that. Yeah u know I’ve been wondering about SSH lately for a few things. I’ll have to do some reading up on the subject

Also it turns out the phantom third monitor thinks it’s an AppleTV. I found reference to AFTT and AFTT-64 in some preferences and activity reports. Very weird as my ATV has not been plugged in for years. However I do have an ATV extension on my FireStick so I can cast from iPad to TV so I wonder if the Mac is picking up on that.
