Depends on your workflow, of course. But for me: absolutely a non-issue.

The rMB is the best laptop I ever owned, period.

Exactly. I've owned Macbook Pros and currently have a Macbook Air. I plug something in maybe once or twice per month... and it's usually a USB backup drive. The only other thing I can think of is maybe a Ethernet adapter for travel (but I don't even use that much anymore).

How much do those video adaptors cost?

I think Apple are loving the smell of their own gaseous effluvia.

What is the cost in weight and volume to include onboard video adapters in a tiny laptop, especially when many buyers have no use for them?

It is a great computer, but just a little too short in ports. Using the space taken up by the headphone socket for another USB-C instead would make all the difference.

I'm not sure if I've ever used the headphone port on my MBA, but IMO, it's a must-have port. I don't think they can do away with that one.

there is no need to do such. After extensive use of iPhone and iPad, the civilization has realized that except power cord, no accessories are needed to be plugged into any Apple devices.

I'd like to be able to charge the MacBook and charge my iPhone at the same time.

This is something I frequently do in Coffee shops, Airport lounges, onboard trains, etc. There often isn't two AC outlets available.

Also, it's nice to be able to tether my MacBook to my iPhone's data connection over USB, in locations that don't have reliable Wi-Fi. Sure, Bluetooth works for tethering too, but it isn't always as reliable as USB, and it drains the battery even more...

I've had my MacBook Air for 3 years and I have never used both USB ports simultaneously. And for the once-a-month times I need to plug in a USB memory drive, I've never needed to have the charger hooked up - though it can certainly be done.

I think Apple did an outstanding job really trying to understand how people use their mobile computers. Sure, they may add another USB port in the future, but it is unlikely it would benefit me - and I suspect many others as well.

Now, if we could just get *ANY* collaboration between some of Apple's software teams, we might be in good shape.

Oh, and maybe a few UNIX engineers to bring OS X back to life.

You weren't impressed by the handoff feature? That clearly wasn't created in silos.

I have an Air and use EVERY port on it, all the time. Both USB's, often to charge/sync iPhone and for backup drives, flash drives, Magsafe to charge, and headphones, almost always all at the same time. The new rMB is definitely too short for me to make any reasonable use of. A 13" retina Air, would be perfection to me. The inability to have your computer plugged in and also charge even one phone is a joke to me. Even futher, the inability to even charge your phone, or do a wired sync, AT ALL , is even more of a joke. Design was nice but the damn thing has next to no functionality. I am sure it works well for casual and not as serious users, airport goers, but even then, I am sitting here like, I can't sync and charge my iPhone, without an adapter. Nope, nope. And it isn't like the Air is some behemoth.

It may be underpowered for those into serious/professional video editing, or if one is searching for the next prime number. However many, business people and individuals alike, are just looking for a very compact and lightweight mobile computer with an awesome display that does a great job browsing the web, handling email, processing photos, working a Keynote presentation, etc. For those the retina MacBook is ideal.

most of those people i know just use iPads.

Agree, I feel like the computer just falls short.

Like, If they would have done rMB with:

Magsafe
One USB C
Made a USB C Lightning Cable
A reasonable USB C to USB 3.0 inline adapter to hold us over until it is standard
A headphone jack

it would have been reasonable. In its current form, it isnt, and no amount of time, will change that for me, until wireless charging, wireless hard drives, wireless everything, become the norm and are as fast as current wired solutions and at the same price points. Never even considered buying the rMB.

That's great, we see there's still some genius behind hardware and engineering. Engineering still rocks. Keep doing it Phil! You're the best.

The issue is that there's no more genius behind the products... Yes we can make everything thinner and smaller and invent a new antenna design etc, but what's in the end? Yet another "thinner" but overall the same iMac or MacBook? It's thin enough... Look at what Microsoft just did: a laptop with detachable screen turning into a tablet, a phone which can connect to a keyboard and a monitor and turn into a desktop - the Apple should have been the one who made those things! But it wasn't. Instead it's making laggy gold watches and thin computers. Because there's no visionary and vision behind Apple products.
