I love my Philips Hue lights, and I've been using them for many years. But... am I the only one tired of companies trying to shoehorn "AI" into everything?

My thoughts too. Considering their existing light schemes, and the fact it says it will suggest existing ones, this is just hype.

They’re colored lights. They’re running out of ways to make them more exciting. And of course, ways to justify a high price.

Agreed. I hate that companies are using the term "AI" for every new feature they introduce. No Philips, it's not "AI" all you did was figure out a different way to change the color of the lights. For all we know it might be a worse experience and less customizable than it is now. 😄

Because the lights are not made from animals (duh) next they will be labelling them "Vegan".

AI will be used to set colours, such as "pink", "purple" and even "blue".

... Great. I just want lights I can turn off in HomeKit, I really don't need another layer of AI to complicate things.

I’m assuming most of the people who read this will be US based but Philips make some of the BEST TVs in Europe. Beautiful designs and ambilight all built in. And they are fully specced.

Review!
Philips doesn't make TV sets any more, I had, well still have but used a Philips Plasma and that was when they made them.

I use Philips Hue, but only have one colour bulb. I don't use the app, I control all the lights in the house by Alexa or the Philips Hue remotes, which I have dotted around the house.

I doubt this AI thing will do anything for me, even if I realise it is in the app.

I want an AI system that learns mine and my partners weird working pattern and learn when best to automate.

On subject of lights... I just had siding, soffits, gutters replaced, and had what was likely the best rated track lights put on the house from a Calgary company called Gemstone. It works, and has ability to use some recommended scenes as the year progresses... But seriously, one of the sloppiest apps on my phone.

They threw in on my $4000 lights, a 'free' Gemstone Opal bulb. Tried it, replacing a Hue bulb by my bedside.
Not great. ANOTHER app, syncing required somehow making the bulb flash numerous times, and like the other Gemstone app, no Homekit support. So, no nice little shortcut on the watch like I get with Hue. Allegedly it has Alexa integration possible, and I figure I might one day be able to figure out some sort of Homekit integration, but compelled to recommend to most people stick with Hue and their non-color A15 E26 bulbs.

It’s the new buzzword of “smart”.

Remember smart dishwasher and smart washing machines coming out? Pretty sure my washing machine has some kind of “smart sense” mode or some bs. The dishwasher has “auto” mode. I’m betting new models call this AI mode while nothing has changed.

The ONLY reason I considered getting a Samsung OLED over a LG was the sync app. LG supporting it is such a game changer to not need the sync box

aaand there is the final push for me to move to diyHue to replace my hue bridge, I do not need AI for this, I do not want AI for this

Philips don't make TV's, Lol

The TV branding was bought by a mid to low tier company called TP-Vision. Signify owns the brand name for Hue lights.

The BEST & highest rated tv's in Europe now are made by small Korean companies called Samsung & LG.
That is very pedantic. It’s like Apple don’t manufacture their own iPhones. They are made by Foxconn.

For all intents and purposes it’s Philips TVs. They sell under that. They have people who represent them based in the Netherlands where they originally come from. They are even on the Philips.com website as their own TVs. This is not some dodgy license of rubbish products like Nokia.

And if you don’t believe they make some of the best TVs then do some research. They use LG panels and add ambilight and other features to make them better in lots of people’s opinions.

This isn’t directed just at the poster of the reply, but everyone else questioning it.

Philips have very little to do with it now, did you read my link?
All they do is stick their name to the set, just like Panasonic, well the lower end models are made by Vestel, which makes them no different to brands like Polaroid and Bush.

Philips more or less said, do what you want. more or less like Nokia did with their mobuile phone manufacture, they sold it to MS and then MS sold it to HMD, still has the Nokia name onit, but has nothing to do with Nokia.

I only found out recently that Toshiba belongs to Hisense, my TV is a Hisense, it is good for the price.

Difficult to know who makes what these days and if they have anything to do with them. I remember a few months ago, someone saying they are going to buy a new Panasonic as they love their TV sets, they took some convincing that new model's had nothing to do with Panasonic any more, but was now in the hands of TLC

Samsung still produces their own, but seems to have gone to pot, certainly on the repeatability of them.
I will stick with my Hisense, it is five years old next month, so if it lasts for another 3-4 years I will be happy for the price I paid for it.

Another link below of who does what, even if I have never heard of some of the brands. this is from @022, so things have changed again, like Panasonic are now made by TLC.

If your Hue app takes GBs on your phone, there’s something seriously wrong going on with your device.
I meant after they add this AI 💩… many apps which used to be 700 mb AT MOST two or three years ago now bloat to 2 GB+ … X/Twitter on my phone for example. There’s no reason it needs that much space. Health app is also bloated as hell at 1.2+ GB

Yes, you are correct that TP Vision makes them. And yes they are made in China - like everything. Including everything Apple makes (I know they are also manufactured in some other places too). But the Philips TV offices are in Holland, their staff are in Holland, and the TVs are released first in Holland but that isn't even the point of my post.

The point was that that they make some of the Best TVs and I'd always choose them over Samsung or LG because of Ambilight.

Ambilight isn't a fad for any U.S. readers and it has been around for maybe 20 years, possibly longer.

It is not the fact that they are made in China, Philips have very little to do with it now, if they have anything at all these days

Are you saying that Philips sets are the best just because they have some lights on the back?
My old Philips was a great Tv, no amber light, but I don't think the ones with the Philips name on now would be as well-made, also Amber light don't work well in all situations.

i will stick with my cheap Hisense, i prefer to buy British, but the only things made here tv wise is Ferguson and Cello and they are only put together here, the parts are from Turnkey, still Vestel sets.
So Chinese it is.
