With Philips Hue, we always focus on convincing quality to meet our customers' expectations. Therefore, we will take a little more time than originally planned for the Philips Hue Bridge software update before making it available to all consumers. We will inform you as soon as we have a concrete date for the release of the Matter software update.

I hope they retain this sense of caution in the future whenever they release anti-Matter software updates, as well.

No one wants to have to eject the warp core.

6 Months later - "Actually, our existing hubs can't support matter from a security standpoint so you'll need to buy our new hub"
That’s the same type of garbage that we got from Belkin about their wall switches and we had to buy a hub that works only if I power cycle it once a day.

I’ve read the hue developer message board occasionally over the last couple months in anticipation for matter. From what I can gather, it’s not just hue.
It was like a week ago, that they discovered a bug on renaming bulbs not syncing from hue to apple home. The issue was on apples end. Has it been fixed in 16.4? Idk.

I think you're misunderstanding what Matter is.
I know exactly what matter is. I was experimenting with Bluetooth and set up WiFi control of a light bulb and and alarm system in the 1990s! I do NOT want bug riddled code, designed by marketers, flashed into my hub or bulbs or Echos or plugs or ANYTHING when they they have been PERFECT for years. I think instead it is you who do not understand how all of this works, and especially how programming by committee works.

Why would I want some Apple riddled disastrous Apple approved update to kill all my Hue bulbs that have worked perfectly for many years?
this has nothing to do with Apple, this Philips Hue and Matter support, what am i missing ?

Apple was one of the four members of the Project Connected Home, and contributed significant code. It has everything to do with Apple. I do NOT want their filthy code in my light bulb dammit!

If they expand the number of devices you can connect to a bridge, or add real multi-bridge support, the wait's worth it.
Or, alternatively, if it turns out that they need to introduce a new Hub that has more than 32MB of RAM, I'll be all for that. Good lord, the 12 accessory limit (I know it's actually a rule limit) is so crippling.

The real advantage of Matter is for manufacturers. For example, I just bought a Tapo Smart plug with Matter support (The TP125M). I did not bother to download TP-Links app. I can control the plug with Apple Home App, Goolge, Smart Tings and Amazon and Home Assistant.

There is no reason at all for TP-Link to spend money developing and supporting an App. TP-Link should not ever have to add new features, nor will they need to fix and test their App with every new release of IOS or Android. OK, today they still need to have an app to support their non-Matter products, but in time (4 or 5 years) they will have no non-Matter products.

This is the biggest deal for them, they don't have to keep their app working on all future OS releases.

The 125M plug does not have to support Apple's Homekit protocol nor will it need a firmware update when Apple changes the protocol. (same for google and Amazon protocols)
