Some people dont get it, its ok. If you cant imagine what its like in a house full of voice controlled lights or watch/phone controlled then you dont get it. Changing how your place feels in .2 of a second is pretty fun to do. Laying in bed and turning the air on without getting up is nice. Turning off all the lights with one button or voice command is pretty big. It makes little things like turning on a light switch seem that much more ancient.
Try Turning off 18 lights multiple times a day dimming them, changing the color hue to fit how you want your place to look. Then turning them off when you go to sleep and see how much better having a smart controlled home is.
But its true if you dont have it you dont know what your missing

That was you?! Stop hacking my house x-evil-x! :p

Yep indeed, that's why I said that it's a cool feature and not a gimmick. I don't really have smart devices in my home yet so I don't miss any of it although there is stuff that I find very interesting.

Sigh.

Is it actually that hard to:

1. Get up.
2. Walk over to light switch.
3. Dim/turn off lights (using said switch).

Seriously?!?

I completely agree. How hard would it be to:

1. Hire a random stranger to sit next to you while watching movies.
2. Ask them to never blink, and to control your light strips with a cheap RGB remote to match the colors in every frame of a 2 hour movie.
3. Find a sleeping bag for this dedicated rando, because they’ll have to live with you.
4. Put the sleeping bag back in the closet. There’s no time for sleeping because you want to watch another movie.

Umm, HomeKit for Mac, Apple?!

LONG overdue.

^^I agree. I don't get where someone above says they can't do it...wasn't there a TV show that, a couple years ago, synced with Hue and took control of the lights during the episodes? (I don't recall if that worked via iOS app or what).

Yes, SYFY Sync app, was VERY cool!

For me this works fine with iTunes when I listen to music, but iTunes will stop showing a film when this app is running, only giving me an error message. Works with YouTube and VLC player, but iTunes films will not run.

Sigh.

So you don’t use your tv remote either ? Yes I thought you would , until you have the hue system let others enjoy what the have instead of slagging of someone who has .

This is great and working generally.

However, when trying to watch a HD film through iTunes, I get the "This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)" even though it plays fine when Philips Hue Sync is off.

I just tried it out syncing it up to iTunes on my Mac and it was pretty awesome!
I tried setting it up last night in bed and it wanted me to hit my hue hub button so I gave up for the night because it’s in the other room and didn’t want to move:D. These things make you spoiled.

I have a 2011 I Mac I can AirPlay to my Apple TV using you tube only as if I try and play a movie via I tunes I get a black screen on the iMac maybe my Mac is to old , however my own holiday videos which I have on you tube work perfectly with hue sync via the Apple TV it’s a pity they don’t do a app for the Apple TV as a standalone app don’t even know if that’s possible

If you use a remote control for your TV - your comment is VOID.

How did you get it to work with iTunes? It works with music, but when I play videos with the syncing turned on, i get a gray screen until i turn syncing off.

By iTunes I was just referring to songs. I haven’t tried it with videos, but have with a video game.

Hopefully there will be an OS-level integration in TvOS 12 - Apple and Philips seem to have a good relationship. If not then the only sensible TV option is an HDMI plug-through that captures colour information.

Sounds like the current app is being seen as a screen capture (=piracy) tool by iTunes meaning it won't work with protected content...

I mean you can already control the hue stuff with the appletv remote Siri and appletv. they might add an app but im not sure its needed. I control scenes all the time with the remote

Stupid, who has a PC listening to their TV or music? Make this work with Google Home or Alexa music playing. Then you have something.

Not hard to do the first or second time your wife/kids leave the kitchen or bedroom light on that bleeds light into the living room where I have my 120" projector. But the third time in 5 minutes gets pretty ***** annoying, so yeah, "Alexa, turn off kitchen lights."

Seems to be bumping into Apple copyright protection if you attempt to watch any purchased media.

I get the same thing trying to use it to watch media I purchased from Apple on my 27" iMac.

"This movie can be played only on displays that support HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection)."

Turn the Hue sync app off, and everything is fine.

The idea is great, but it's not thought through to the end. The majority of people I know don't use their computers to watch TV. It also doesn't work with copyright-protected content (iTunes, Netflix, Amazon Prime) on your Mac because Hue Sync essentially uses screen capture - and they recognize that.

I really do wish for an appleTV App - no native integration came with TVOS 12. Did anyone hear anything that something is in the works? With their new Hue lights coming out, e.g. playbar, it would only make sense to expand it to TVs...

I had an Ambilight TV back in Germany, which I absolutely loved, but why they're still not being sold in the US is beyond me. I do miss the feature (and yes, I know there are other options on the market, most of which are mediocre at best).

They're definitely working on bringing it to other platforms, as they have said so.

Can you point us to some sources? I didn't find anything official on that front. Only a "stay tuned" reply cited in one review on Hue Sync from a while ago.

I sure hope they do, and that something is coming sooner rather than later, too. "Stay tuned" can mean many many things (*cough* Mac Pro *cough* AirPower *cough Mac Mini.... )
