Got it!

Picked up a starter kit today, along with one extra bulb. Brought it home and set it up in about 10 minutes, start to finish. Pretty simple and amazing. Can't wait for it to get dark outside :)

I bought it online with in store pick up. Went to pick it up from the local Apple store. They told me they got 5 sets this morning and they're all gone already. I'm ordering two more bulbs right now and picking them up tomorrow.

Anyone having issues adding extra bulbs? They won't appear for me.

Never mind, working now.

Weird. They were not selling the bulbs to me today. The lady said they were not in. A buddy said they were not releasing them until Friday. Weird.

Just got this hooked up. Took 5 minutes if that. Plugged in all the bulbs. Plugged in the bridge. Followed the app instructions and BOOM! Done. It's so nice. Bright too. I was expecting them to be too dim but nope - they are equal to what I had here before if not brighter.

I LOVE these things. I will be getting three more bulbs this week.

To answer someones questions:

1 - You cannot group bulbs in the app, IE - Bedroom, Den, Living Room. You can group bulbs in a scene so they are all controlled as one when changing brightness/color.
2 - You cannot automatically cycle colors.
3 - You cannot automatically turn on when you enter wifi (when you come home).
4 - You can rename bulbs.

The app/product is still new so updates are sure to come out and I can only imagine this thing getting better. The "Relax" setting is so nice.

This (for me) was an excellent purchase! I cannot wait to get more bulbs and have some fun.

Bought a starter kit plus 3 individual bulbs today. Took 10 minutes to set up. I had to convince the "geniuses" at the local Apple Store that HUE really existed. They went online, discovered it did, went in the back room, found and sold them. No one had asked about them before I walked in.

They assured me I could return them in 14 days, so I decided to try them. Hue and the free App is amazing! Download your own pic. Touch it to turn on the lights. Group anyway you want, dim independently, color control independently.

If you turn off the wall switch, the bulbs forget where they were. Turn the switch back on, and the bulbs turn on to default approx. 3000 degrees K. Then touch any mood you set up on the iPhone, and it instantly changes colors & intensity.

We have a 50's Diner designed kitchen with black / white tile, red wall tile, red neon accents, so touch the 50's Diner photo, and 4 bulbs come on, 2 red and 2 whatever temp white you choose. Halloween? Orange no problem. Christmas? Red and Green.

Positives:
1-A must if you are really into home automation, home theatre, etc.
2-Extremely high quality feel bulb design :D
3-Bulbs run barely warm and draw 8.5 watts max :p
4-Super easy to use
5-No need to use your iPhone. Set the onboard timer function for on / off. Gives that lived in look, and no need to turn on / off every time. :D
6-Full dimming capability :apple:
7-Default to Warm White (looks like 3000 degree K) if power fails and comes back on :)
8-No high frequency sound, no flicker, no RFI interference ;)
9-Instantly group able and groups can be changed instantly :apple:
10-Philips is a leader in LED technology. I have over 100 Philips LED bulbs in service for over a year, with no failures. yet, Lights of America and other off brands have failed 100% in a year! The electronics fail, not the LED's themselves in the off brands.
11-Touch a pic of the room to turn the lights on. :p
12-Set a different background pic for every page of moods.
13-Set a page up for every room. This groups the bulbs to a scene in that room by choosing the specific page on the iPhone. :apple:

Complaints:
1-Price
2-Only medium Base available today. I need Candelabra base and need R30
3-600 Lumen output is a little low but is OK :(

These bulbs are NOT going back!!! Wife loves them, as do I. 'Nuff said!!! :D

So you can group 4 bulbs in a fan and control them at once? Also, how do they work with lamps going to manual mode? Like can you use the lamp twist switch to manually turn the bulb back on/off? If you turn off your network (inet goes down) do the lights turn off? Stay on? Go from color to white? Thanks.

I got some novelty Halloween-colored LED light sets last year on clearance for about $6-$9. They change between orange and purple, and it's really really neat.

This sounds like something that could possibly be a nice future of light bulbs and all home electronics. I wish these bulbs would give us some light output so we know how bright they are. I'm assuming they're similar to 60-watt incandescent bulbs, but I have no way of knowing. I find this problem all the time when buying landscape lights. You find cheap ones, but they're much dimmer than those really nice-looking ones your neighbors have.

This is obviously a novelty right now, but I really liked the wake-up feature of the bulbs. I definitely hate the instant air-raid siren I have for an alarm, but it wakes me up. Well, kinda. I instinctively try to punch my phone to kill that annoying noise.

I was skeptical of the light output myself. However, after installing them and using them, they are 60w equivalent. Which is perfect because that's what most of the bulbs I use are. I don't like 75/100w bulbs. They are too bright. These are perfect.

I really like being able to select relaxing vs reading vs energize. It changes the whole feel of the room. I can't wait to get some more bulbs when my store starts selling them. Not sure why they aren't.

You mean the millions of amblight TV's they've sold around the world and all the awards they won for best TV's - Yup huge failure. And as for the effect. It works very well. I have a 47" and it really does draw you in to movies.

These are instant on. you are thinking of CFL

It's not X10 it's Zigbee - x10 is fromthe 1970's

No. These are not instant on there is a delay.

I can't help but think: "what's going on in your life where you need a $59 light bulb?" Not to mention a $600 remote.

The fact that I don't have to go around and turn on 8 lights when I get home is worth it alone. Having devices like these automate and take over daily, mundane tasks is quite nice.

I kid (a bit). Of course you already own the 'remote'. I'd tend to pay a lot just for a light bulb that didn't burn out in 2 months. But I have a lot of other things to spend $59 bucks on.

I don't take posts here all that seriously. :)

I was looking for something to burn some money on and I found this. It worked out very well. I got a new tech device and on top of it, home automation to boot! Couldn't be happier.

I'm interested !

How bright are these bulbs? What's the range for the base and bulbs?

Very informative post. Thank you for your time!

I can't wait until Kohler sells iOS controlled toilets.

I'm all over this like stink on sh**

Severe depression. Blue lights make people happy ;)

Me too...$60 in the seedy area of Vegas goes a LONG way.

how is this different to one of those "smart houses" ?

Cheaper. Home Automation is so freaking expensive.

Anyone know when these will be available on the UK Apple Store ?

Thanks :)
I have seen them in a UK Apple store today. They had 4 (or 6?) boxes, as well as about 8 individual bulbs. So far from sell out. I didn't check what they costs, do that after winning the Euromillions on Friday ;)
