Just received the trade in kit. I thought the Apple trade in concerns only the watch. The trade-in guide now also requests the band.
Has anybody traded in yet with Phobio and has any experience how they manage trade ins without the band?
Thanks.

I'm interested in this as well.

The Brightstar kit for gift cards does not mention the band. That's the one they sent me when I requested a gift card before preorders.

I'm assuming you requested a refund when you set up the trade in during checkout? That's what I did when I preordered, and now I see it's phobio shipping a fedex box to me as well.

The trade-in kit indeed mentions the band. I talked to Apple as my Apple Care did not register automatically on the S4 and they confirmed no band needed. I have a Genius appointment this PM for a battery replacement on an older phone. I will actually try to trade-in on the spot if they give me the same amount. Reduces the hassle of interaction with Phobio.

Phobio sent me a kit and messed up my name. asked them for another one just in case it's someone trying to steal my old watch

might just return and rebuy with apple

I chatted with Phobio support since I am in the same boat. They said not to send a band.

Ha, I did the same chat with them this AM and they said yes, you do have to include the band....

I also ordered the trade in kit. However yesterday I just decided to drop by the Apple store to be safe. Only carried my watch and got my trade in offer in a gift card. Today I received a trade in kit from Phobio (not Brightstar) and just tossed into the recycle and the instructions in the can. Curiosity and dug out the instructions.

I was also concerned, so I tweeted @gogophobio and received this response:
Correct, watch bands are never required when completing a trade-in! Keep your band and use it with your new watch if you want!!

I traded in my apple watch 3LTE to Apple directly when I bought my new AW4 LTE the removed the band and handed it back to me.

Could someone please provide a pic of the box they received to trade their watch in? My husband received ours in the mail today and said it was useless....says it has a cellophane window?! Doesn't sound too secure. And yes, our instructions also state to send the bands back also. Appreciated and thanks in advance.

Yes, it is a little box with a cardboard folder inside that features a cellophane see through cover. I would probably tape the sides to avoid the watch to slipping out.

I traded the S3 in at the Apple Store "after the fact" (the S4 had be pre-ordered online and was delivered earlier this week). Apple did credit nevertheless against my credit card used for the purchase and honored the same amount quoted online. I did bring the S4 packaging though for them to easily link it to the purchase.

The cellophane holds it in place so it's surrounded by air. As stated above, you can tape it down once it's under the cellophane to hold it in place even better.

I just got back from dropping off the watch at Fedex. Wish I would have seen your post and I would have taken it to the Apple Store instead.

I wanted the trade-in to go back on my credit card, but thought they only would do an Apple store gift card. (Even that would have been OK, if I could have used it for iTunes to pay for Apple Music/iCloud storage, which is not the case.)

That’s awesome, has anyone else done this? Is it common practice or did he luck out? I’d much rather do this than send it in but my Apple Store ( Michigan Ave) is always a madhouse.

I’m feeling a little anxious about this trade-in program. I have the kit with the plastic sleeve, but the box it came in and I have to send it back is is a mess. It evidently got wet somewhere on the journey. I can probably tape it well enough that it wouldn’t be a problem but I also read that some people have had trouble with getting their trade in amount with the company claiming the watch was not in good condition when quoted. My nearest Apple Store is about an hour away, but I’m wondering if I should just go ahead and make the trip to trade it there in person.
[doublepost=1538012099][/doublepost]Another question, it says to unpair your watch. Does that also erase all of your personal data or do I need to do something else to erase the data?

I too contacted Phobio:

"No, Karen. No need for you to send the band as well. We apologize for the confusion. There is a mis-print on the pamphlet directions. Keep your band and use it with your new watch!"

You can reset the watch in settings on the watch.

Got my Apple watch trade-in box yesterday. Everything seems pretty straightforward, I'll report back here if that changes. One thing I noticed, once I put my Apple Watch (no band, just case) under the protective film, there is a slight friction. The watch isn't shifting anywhere. Anyways, so far, so good.

Went to the Apple Store today. They did credit my credit card the $225 at the store, but they stressed that this was the exception, not the norm. Usually you get a gift card at the store, but I was very nice.

You do NOT have to send a band back.

If you take yours to the store, it helps if you bring the box your new one came in, or maybe they just need the serial # off of your new one.
