Phone ate 18gb of data today.

This is the reason, I don’t ever use any online music/cloud service. I sync my own music from my pc/mac using USB cable. At any point, if Apple decides to drop own music syncing feature, I am selling my iPhone.

My operator gives me 125 GB 4G data of 6 months for ₹1999 ($31) but still I won’t use Apple’s crappy music service.

YIKES that's a lot of data!

Yeah no kidding. I’m only the same plan as them to help keep there bill down. Since I pay half for my 3 phones and they pay there half. But I almost went to my own plan right before they launched the unlimited plan. Cause I got tired of my mom letting her use 20 gigs of our 30 for the whole plan and the rest of us not being able to use but 1 or 2 at the max. And we would always go over. I was gonna switch to my own but they launched the unlimited the end of that month lol.

The phone can do all sorts of things that can use data without you knowing it. I once got a $600 data bill while in a foreign city because the I forgot to turn off cellular data while on a wifi connection - sometime while I was sleeping the phone disconnected from the hotel wifi and switched to cellular for the iCloud backup...

We’re on a 20gb family plan with rollover from AT$T. We never go over 10gb or so.

Today I got a text from AT$T that we’ve used 75% of our data, 5 days into the billing period.

I checked the account online and it said there was a single 18gb data use today at 3pm.

Any idea what could suck down that much data in under an hour? She already had all her photos and all apps on the phone before she went out of town. Doesn’t seem to be music. Even an iOS update is only a gigabyte or so max.

18gb is a big chunk of mystery data.

Same thing happened to me with a new iPhone X from Verizon. I have always bought my iPhones directly from Apple. For some reason, this time I elected to buy one from our cellular provider--Verizon. The day after I started using the new iPhone, I somehow racked up 20GB of cellular data downloads in about a half-hour without my knowledge. Upon investigation, it turns out that when they shipped it, Verizon enabled cellular downloads for every app on the phone by default, including software updates, without my knowledge. When I contacted them to complain, they blamed Apple ("it's an Apple feature")
