Phone frozen after resting on dock all night

Every once in a while I will take my phone off a charging dock and the screen will be frozen (very dark screen but not off) and the only thing I can do is do a cold forced boot to get it back to normal.

anyone know why this is happening?

Is there any particular app that might be running while it's in the dock?
