Sometimes when i reboot or respring the phone , the push notifications from the google app dont work

And i miss a lot of messages

I have to open the google app to get push messages again

This is a pain cause sometimes i forget to open the google app after a reboot or respring

Does this happen to anybody else?

Is there an alternative to using the google app for push?

Im using the sms gv extension + bitesms

I'm not sure if this is the same thing happening to me on occasion but I do miss messages because bitesms doesn't pick up push notifications from google voice or possibly google voice isn't getting the notifications. I'm not sure which one it is since BiteSMS intercepts the notifications so I would never see one from GV anyway. It seems to only happen in one area for me (where I'm on wifi all day) so I'm trying to test if it's a connectivity issue.

You could try push via email forwarding:

What happens if someone texts me on my regular non GV number? Do I still get charged for that?

This combo is not working right for me

The past week i checked the google app and none of my text are there

So it was not workin i was getting charged

I open bitesms and my messages from the past week are there

Be careful guys

For those of you where Google Voice has replaced your standard phone plan, how well does it do with calls and texts on 3G? I have the Google Voice app, but use my standard minutes and texts when calling out.

Of course. Your ATT number functions the same. This extension only makes it so outgoing SMS go through GV.

Did you toggle off the extension somehow (sbsettings?)? A way to avoid being charged (if you don't pay for SMS) is to append a signature (like -GV at the end of messages) under sent SMS in GV SMS extension settings. That way you know if it's being sent via GV or your carrier.

It really depends on your data connection/coverage. If I'm in a fringe area, it may take a long time to connect a call and my sms may not send/receive. EDGE is plenty to connect call and send sms.

Yep. Generally it works very well. In a low signal area and/or EDGE-only, it can take what seems like forever to direct-dial a GV call. Text generally goes very quickly even on EDGE. It's not perfect but these GV extensions are as close to the Android Google Voice integration as we can get right now.

Agreed!

BEST trio ever!

As a bonus, us GV users can now use any other App Store apps that integrate native messaging thanks to the SMS Extensions. It's been...well...BLISS

anyone using all these w/Lockinfo?

i use Favorites on my lockscreen and have set the GV Ext option to ask me how to make my calls (Direct, Call Back, Offline, Carrier, etc).

when i select a person to call from Favorites the GV calling option pops up. i select Carrier and the call launches - in the background - with the screen still locked. not good. i have to unlock the screen and tap the green status bar to interface with the phone app.

but if i select Call Back from the GV options the screen unlocks as it should and puts me directly into the phone app.

anyone else try this, if so how is it working for you?

sent in a request to the Lockinfo dev, says it is not Lockinfo.

waiting on the GV dev.

Loving these apps.. Makes google voice actually useful on my phone, so I may have everyone switch over. One question first though - is there currently or in the future going to be an app like GV Dial Rules except for SMS? I can't text my fiancé on the way to/from work (carpool) using GV because my cell signal goes in and out so much... I guess the data needed to notify me just doesn't go through. Her messages come to me way late or occasionally never, so I'd like to set it up where I text her through ATT and everyone else through GV. Any ideas?

There's no way to do this at the moment, unfortunately. There is the rules list for voice calls but not SMS. The closest thing I could think of would be to use the SBSettings GV Send toggle on/off as needed, such as in weak signal areas turn off the GV. Not sure how practical that is for your situation but perhaps something to consider.

Hey it works for me. Thanks for the help, I didn't think about SBSettings :) it's really just a more manual way to do what I was looking for haha. I found that after taking off my vapor aluminum knockoff case my signal has much improved in the spotty areas to and from work, but I'll still have to switch GV off when talking to girl. Thanks again!

use email to sms. Phone-number@text.att.com or whatever the gateway is.

Also why do you guys bother with bite sms?
Why not simply use the normal messenger app with gv sms extension and pay for the ability to send?

The ability to schedule a text for a future time, the ability to block someone, hide a message, send while not in the application, send in lock screen, send without interrupting a game, timestamp in seconds for each message (useful when message is delayed), reply to anyone within seconds? bitesms does all of this.

gotcha. I thought it was just above gv integration. I started playing around with bite and so far I guess I'm convinced :D

My only issue with this is that I can't use "gVoice App" or "SMS GV Extension" to send/receive SMS/TXT while on 3G/Standard-Data...

The only way I can use SMS/TXT (without WiFi / 3G-Only) is to turn-off "SMS GV Extension" - BUT THEN... People I TXT can obviously see the native AT&T GoPhone number (555-555-5555) that I'm sending it from...

which sucks, because on all other points-of-interest - these extensions completely allow me to hide the fact that I'm just masking Calls/Texts with my newly-ported-to-GV phone number. But in reality, I'm using an iPhone w/ AT&T GoPhone SIM/#.

Dammit! There has to be a way around this... if not only for the fact that I can browse in Safari while on just 3G/Standard-Data.

Hrmmmzzz... Any pointers would ROCK. THX!

just had an idea to use "3G Unrestrictor" on Google Voice App (so as, to tell gVoice to just send the SMS/TXT over my 3G connection). However, that didn't work for me =/

I wonder if this GoPhone just doesn't have a PPU Data Package added-on..?

That would make sense because 3GU forces "ALL" Apps to use the Data Connection... and why would the gVoice App not use a data connection..? Duh. Hrmmz.. That might be it.

I think I'll go to the AT&T store, grab a $10 GoPhone Card and add-on 10MB of Data to see if that does the trick.

Hope my shortcomings help someone else down the road ; )

I have no idea why you are having problems.

GV works for me over 3G, WiFi and even Edge.

I can even take my SIM card out and still send/receive texts.

The GV App uses the same data connection as web browsing, etc.

Does safari work over 3G?

Does the update to my last post (just above) make sense to you too - That I probably just have an active GoPhone account with no Smart Phone Data Package added-on?

Do you have a data plan?

No data plan - no google voice. Plain and simple. It doesn't use a large amount of data but you do need data.

Can you browse in safari over 3G? if not, GV won't work.

Thx bro - Works perfectly now - If only I knew about this scheme sooner... I def wouldn't be locked into my iPhone 4 Plan still for another year / ETF =>$200 =[

But... And 4 Anyone else contemplating the logistics of just eating the ETF bullet in favor of switching over to GoPhone/gVoice >> EX:

**Over the next 6 months I will pay $480 (roughly $80/mo) for Standard iPhone AT&T Service. However, If I cancel (right now), I must pay a $215 (Originally $305+) Early Termination Fee. --BUT-- If I eat the ETF bullet ($215), Port my # to Google Voice ($20), and switch over to AT&T GoPhone / gVoice Extension Integration (roughly $30/mo. for minimal use [that's all I personally need as I'm in wifi range 90% of the time]) I actually end up POCKETING/SAVING !!!***$65***!!! Lmfao. Thx AT&T :)

P's.
