So I have an iPhone X and yes already out of warranty. So about a week ago my phone started resetting on its own. Would just shut off and go to apple logo, sometimes would start up and sometimes would just get stuck on the logo screen forcing me to do a hard reset. Now along with every time it resets that way my sound goes out as well making me reset the phone again after it resets on its own in order to get the sound back. I have already tried last resort and restore the phone through itunes and I set it up as new to see if it’s something with what I had on the back up or if it’s with the phone itself. And of course even set up as new it still resets. Now that I’ve seen it reset so many times I most likely think 99% sure that it resets when the battery gets hot, so when ever I play a game for more then 15-20 min and the phone starts warming up on the back it shuts off. I tried showing this to an apple employee at the store but they just said it could be the game I’m playing even though I told them it has happened with another game also and even restarted when I put the back up back on and it was loading all the apps one by one and the phone was getting warm and boom restarted. Also their tests says the phone is perfect and doesn’t show any problems on the diagnosis tools.

So please if anyone has any idea what it is or what I can do to fix this since apple didn’t tell me anything. Was hoping maybe replacing the battery would help but don’t know if it’s the battery or something with the actual motherboard maybe?

Thanks for any advice!!

Gotta be in it to win it
Apple said the battery wear was what? Unless there is a hardware issue, the battery getting hot, could be caused by the game, but it also could be cause by a battery that has degraded. What ios version and what is the battery wear?

The battery shows 89%. And It started before I updated to 12.1 so I updated and still happened and now I’m on 12.2.
Apple said all was fine with phone from the diagnostic.

If playing a game, the phone is expected to heat up. Likely the CPU and not so much the battery.

Sounds like you got a bad app or game that keeps tripping your device and making it restart.

The thing is I’ve been playing this game even on the iPhone 6 I had before the X and was always good. Had the X for over a year now and was still working fine with the game. Also I’ve asked people in the game and no one has that problem at all. Also it happens with the other game I also play.

Does it randomly reset even when you have no apps installed? I had a problem with Youtube TV recently. Even with the screen off and the phone just sitting there, it would get the phone hot and reboot the phone if Youtube TV was running in the background. So sometimes rogue apps can do funny things.

No that’s the thing the phone works perfectly fine it only resets when it gets hot enough and is usually through playing some of the heavy games. Other then that the phone is fine. But being that I am a gamer, it kinda sucks. If I watch YouTube vids on 1080 quality the phone doesn’t really get too warm. So it’s only he games at this point
