iPhone 7/Plus Phone number instead of name

My sister has a 7 plus and for some reason there are 2 contacts who are in her phone however when she receives the notifications it shows their numbers instead of their names. However after she clicks on the number and it takes her to the message their name will pop up.

Has anyone had this issue? Anyway to fix it?

Are these messages being sent as iMessages?

you might also want to check if there is something unusual about this number's contact record.
like maybe there being 2 contacts with the same number. or re-entering the name into the contact file, or editing the way the number is displayed in the contact (adding area code, or adding the international + sign, or designating the number to be a mobile or home or work number etc).
