This has never happened to me before. And I did nothing to trigger it.

Drove to work today while listening to my iPod. Was at work for about four hours before I decided to use the iPod again. Pushed the home button to wake phone up, double clicked for iPod controls and it locked up. The "slide to unlock" gleam even stopped moving.

So I did a hard reset. Now it sits at the Apple logo for around 6 minutes before flashing brightly, going black and starting all over. It's been doing this for about an hour now.

Has this happened to anyone else? It's pretty damn frustrating as I'm now into the boring half of my shift and I have no music. I'm not really asking for a fix because I'm pretty sure it's going to involve iTunes which I don't currently have access to.

My phone is a jailbroken 3GS (blackra1n) running 3.1.2. The only things running are LockInfo and No Page Dots.

Hmm, the only times I seem to get stuck on the bootscreen are after installing an app or doing something like a network settings reset. It's good to have OpenSSH installed on the phone to save you the agony of doing a restore, though you still need a computer to get your phone working again.

Getting stuck on the bootscreen is my only real gripe with the iPhone. There really needs to be a better solution than using a computer to fix it.

A mega +1 on this. I've never had this happen before but it's silly that I'm stuck without a phone for the rest of the night. What am I to do if I hit a deer on the way home?? Walk, I guess.

What do you expect when you're running jailbroken/hacked apps?

lostprophet894: I know you are not looking for a solution, but I want to offer you a possible way to get out of the bootloop without restoring: iRecovery. A couple of quick commands from a terminal, and your phone should restart normally. Requires a PC or a Mac with libusb installed (you can find libusb online...be sure you get a version compiled for your OSX version)

If you have a problem with jailbreaking, please take your comments elsewhere. This board is for people who jailbreak their phones.

Where did he say that he's running hacked apps?
If you dont like jailbraking then you shouldnt be in this section like mentioned above.
    Move on.

    Yes, it works on Windows.

I don't think he really had a problem with jailbreaking, but was only mentioning that this kind of behavior can occur when you are jailbroke.

Okay I'm home and on my laptop and I can't get this thing to do anything.

Tried the iRecovery route and nothing. Tried going into DFU, nothing. I plugged the powered down phone in while holding home and nothing.

Seriously... I've never had an issue that I couldn't resolve on my own. This is really frustrating. What else can I do?

Edit: Blackra1n doesn't detect it either.

His signature. He didn't say he runs jailbroken apps but why jailbreak if you don't?
Bingo. My phone is jailbroken. I'm just saying it's par for the course, that's all.

Sorry, but no. I've been jailbreaking since I had my original iPhone on 1.1.3 and I've never had anything like this happen.

You may have to let the power run out completely. Not sure how long that would take or even if that would help but it's worth a shot.

Alright. Update. I held the home & power buttons for a REALLY long time and finally got the "connect to iTunes" screen.

    Restoring now.

Look, there is no denying that allowing apps to run that have potential full access to the system could cause this type of behavior. It'd be far harder for a non JB'd app to do something similar. I'm not saying it's impossible just that the risk is higher with jailbroken apps.

Excellent. Hopefully that'll fix your woes.

I'm just wondering why holding down home and sleep for a very long time got him into restore. First I've heard of that.

Interesting indeed. Truth is I was trying to get it into DFU and got distracted by South Park. When I looked back to the phone the iTunes icon was there.

Update: The restore went through. Restoring from backup now. LockInfo was really the only extension I was running so it won't take long to get back to where I was.

Yerp. I'm really not looking forward to syncing everything back over. 27 gigs takes a while.

Yikes, I can imagine. My 16GB (7 filled) takes 2hrs from restore to sync end.

Navigon alone took about 40 minutes to sync over. I don't remember it taking that long last time.

    Any luck with this yet?

i had the same problem once i installed something that required a reboot then it did the whole apple logo then reboot, i was so frustrated at the time and just ended up restoring and putting everything back on. Wish i could have figured out how to fix it then as losing everything wasnt the most fun part of my night.
