Hi, ahead of the launch later, I had a quick question about signing up for the iUP. Do you need to go into store for iUP or is there away to do on pre-order?

I've done iUP before but have always done in store, not sure if this is still the case?

Still solely instore.

Hoping they allow us to pre-order online this year given the current situation. But rubbish they never offered it before to be honest

I was surprised it's still solely in-store. You can buy stuff on credit online no issues - this is essentially the same thing, no? A credit agreement to buy the product just with the added bonus of getting a new device in 12 months if you want.
 
It’s actually not down to Apple. It’s the partner banks that enforce checking ID & doing credit checks etc.

Not sure about the differences in how Barclays work directly and their partners but as far as I know Apple gets the money from Barclays immediately when the phone is sold.
 
Looks like you can get pre approved online for iUP ahead of launch as announced on MR overnight 🙂. The news I was hoping for!

You can get pre-approval for monthly payments but it isn't the iUP.

I got all excited to see I could pre-approve but after speaking with them on the phone to double check, they told me it is only for monthly payments (meaning you cannot upgrade after the first year)

You might already know this but just wanted to chime in.
 
With Barclays its easier to get financing as they have less strict checks. i.e. people with medium level credit hitory can easily get a mortgage etc.

So passing the Apple/Barlcays checks will be easy for most.
 
It's really annoying, as I can't confirm if my closest Apple Store (Birmingham/Manchester) will be in a three-tier lockdown by the time my reservation date comes along..
 
So is the 20-month iPhone Payments not a thing anymore? Only option on the App is for full payment, or apply for the 24-month plan.

Do you have the link? I don’t see it for the 12 Pro Max.

I literally just got off a chat session with Apple. The upgrade option will appear once the phones are available to be pre ordered.

By the time I can buy this I’ll have paid 12-13 monthly payments on my IUP agreement from last year. Upgrades are available from the 11th payment so do i get any additional trade-in value when I upgrade to the 12 Pro or are the additional monthly payments I’ve made ignored and Apple simply take my 11 Pro and start me on a new agreement at full price?

I’ve literally come off a chat with Apple and asked the same thing. I think it’ll just be ignored because technically you’ve got 2 extra months use out of it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Remember that The Trafford Centre is not under Manchester City Council, but Trafford Borough Council. Currently not making any difference, but could be treated differently.

I have a question, and I'm probably mistaken in my understanding somewhere, but here goes:

I have been on the iUP for a few years now, and will probably look to continue that. The thing that worries me every year is the in-store credit check on release day. Now, if I was buying a phone via the Barclays 24 month thing, I could get pre-approval for that on the app, and just cross the Ts on release day. But as I am on the iUP programme, I have to sweat it out in front of the Apple staff in-store, to see if I have been approved. I've passed every year but I live in fear of being denied the credit one day.

Is this still the only option for people on the iUP?
