Is it okay to rename the photo app on my MacBook. Thanks.
It probably depends on what version of macOS you are using. If you are using a version that has a sealed OS install, you likely can't change it.

Why not just create an alias with the name you want to use?

The name of the app that comes with your Mac is "Photos" (not photo). What name are you hoping to use for that app?
(As jdb8167 wrote, renaming an Apple app is probably not possible, even if you have a good reason for the change...)
But, the idea mentioned about making an alias of that app, then changing the name of the alias will work, and you can then use that alias to launch the app when needed. However, the original app would remain in place, with the original name. You can't change the actual name of the app.
The app (and its name) are protected by the system.

Many thanks all for your replies.
what it is I have noticed that I have two photos folders. By holding the alt key on keyboard and opening the photos ap it shows two folders. Now I was thinking of naming the correct photo folder by name. Then I would know the correct folder.
I selected to show that photos app in finder. There I noticed that when I select that folder there is an option to rename is by using the right click.
would that be okay to rename. Or left alone.
many thanks to all.
ps MacBook Air withe latest operating system.

That's your Photos library. Yes you can rename that. You can also choose between libraries by holding down the option key when starting up the Photos application.

Yes, you should have no problem with renaming a Photos library. You can test to see if that works by changing name on one of the four. Reopen Photos, while holding the Option key, and you should see your new name for that library.
After all, that Option-Photos is how you change to a different library. I don't think that Photos will care what name you choose, as long as you leave the file in the same Pictures folder, and you don't try to change or remove the filename extension. (.photoslibrary). THAT will likely mean that Photos will ignore that library file, as it would no long be identified correctly.
