For a couple years I've needed to delete and regenerate my whole library about once a month. I keep hoping that with each revision the issue will be solved (must be hundreds of error logs sent from me to Apple by now), but it never does. I have about 40,000 photos in my library. (iCloud synced).

I've done all the suggestions across the internet. Nothing works. So I'd like to find a picture management app. Any suggestions? I will gladly pay for it. Editing is not as important as having a place to keep my photos. I installed Pictorial but there's no way to transfer my albums into it. Is there an app that allows that?

TIA

My Photo app on High Sierra on my iMac crashes shortly after startup. I have rebuild the library but get the same result with a huge crash report. My library has over 6000 photo's. I have also the Photo app running on my Macbook with some 600 photos. No problem. So I imported the photo library from my iMac to my Macbook. The started the Photo app with Option Key and selected the larger library that I copied from my iMac. When opening Photos it stays active for a short while and I can see that it has 6000+ photos, but after 15 seconds it stops. I get a little menu asking whether I want to restart it and report the problem to Apple.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and is there a solution to this error
[doublepost=1522005704][/doublepost]Exactly the same for me. Started today. It's driving me crazy. Any feedback on what's going on?

Same with me. I just imported 60,000 photos as I wanted to go Apple icloud photo library all in.
After I was able to import all the photos - everytime I try to fix the albums of these photos, the Photos app crashes. Beach ball rolling forever. :-(

At the risk of being repetitive, I just thought I would weigh in because it's 2018 and I just experienced the same problem. Turns out I had a corrupted Photo Library. I had just switched over from iPhoto, having just updated to High Sierra from OS 10.6.8. Via an Apple Support call this morning I found the simple solution was to:

1. Press Option + Command while opening Photos App.
2. Select 'Repair' (to repair library)
3. Restart computer.
4. Open Photos App.

I was ready to use an alternative photo browser/editor, but luckily I got Photos to work again. Hope this helps somebody.
Didn't work for me. Problem persists.

Sadly that didn't work for me either. Let us know in a week or so if your Photos is still working. I do find if I open each library separately it stays open a little longer...some of the time. This was going on even before I upgraded to High Sierra.

If I could find another app similar to Photos I would gladly pay for it. Editing is not as important as managing the pictures.

Same problem here.

I had AppleCare do a remote screen share for this. Do you use iCloud Photo Library? I do. They had me disable it (really hard to do when Photos only stays open for ~15 seconds, but on the 10th time I was able to do it), then repair the library.

That worked for me but seemed hokey-pokey.
I tried this too. Extended the time Photo remains open from 30 seconds to 1 minute. Then it crashes again .... and again ... and again. This is a crying shame for a company like Apple!

Mine crashes when I pick the "photos" link. If I browse albums it doesn't crash. This is on the very latest beta OS as of 4/18/18. iCloud is off, tried to rebuild the photo db.... OSX has been crashing a lot in general. Crashes constantly under bootcamp too.

Have you tried Aperture ? It's Apple's Professional photo editor and management tool.

Oh, yea.... Never mind. It got the Apple Knife....

I have been using a new photo viewer for a long time instead of Photos on Mac. Cause I have suffered enough with Photos crashes and limitations. Well, WidsMob Viewer can be a good choice for you.

You can access thousands of Mac photos directly by only accessing one picture. And it can turn RAW files into JPEG, PNG and other commonly-used formats. All I want to say is that WidsMob Viewer is a powerful Mac photo viewer with a reasonable price. And you can run it as Photos alternative with ease.

I took a look at this and it truly looks too good to be true. Before trying it, 2 questions:

1. Is the trial complete? At $10 it's worth the risk if it isn't.
2. Is it possible to transfer my Photo albums into it as they are in Photo?

Amazing I searched so much and did not see this one.

Thanks!!!

[doublepost=1528312323][/doublepost]June 6, 2018 - using High Sierra 10.13.5 and my Photos won't open!!!

Actually, the answer is "Yes".
You can enjoy almost all features in the WidsMob Viewer free trial.
The only difference is that you will get a watermark on every picture you edit before purchasing.
Well, hope you enjoy this Mac photo viewer.

Thank you for your reply. I will report back when I've had a chance to try it out!!

[doublepost=1529721530][/doublepost]Absolutely. I'm so saddened that Mac has replaced the former iPhoto with "Photos". The crash thing happened so frequently that I was on the phone with MacSupport for upwards of 10 hours per week. Now the crashing has stopped and I'm left with an inferior and slow Editing system (yuck) Anybody know of a better one?

Nope, I have the latest version of High Sierra. When Apple Support installed HS remotely, I began having problems with my MacBook Pro and they mushroomed from there. Guess I didn't appreciate it when I was a Professor on the East Coast - at a college, where I had 24/7 access to my own IT department! Quelle dommage.
