Great location... and that cloud is spectacular. An opportunity, IMO, to get a simple, graphic, elemental shot of sea, cloud, cliff and lighthouse. The composition, as is, seems too cluttered. The eye is distracted by the foreground. Just my opinion, of course... ;)

I think the lighthouse picture will be interesting if you take the middle third of the image, cutting off from the top and the bottom and use it in that wide aspect.

These little critters are about 1cm (1/2 inch) wide/long (...). Some of them are blue on the inside but move around more often so my shots are not quite so good.

Nice! That's a Lycaeides sp., and I'd have to get a better look to see if it's a L. melissa (Orange-bordered blue) or L. argyrognomon (Northern blue). I can definitely vouch for the hard part of the pics, these are some very scurry little critters!

These little critters are about 1cm (1/2 inch) wide/long - well they're pretty small and difficult to photo in the wild as they pause in one place for a very short time. Some of them are blue on the inside but move around more often so my shots are not quite so good. Oh well might as well include a blue one.

Slightly larger than 1cm (about 2cm), but they still were difficult to shoot in a garden on a breezy day.

Thanks for the info. My hobby is usually made that bit harder as my assistant gets carried away with excitement - mainly because he is only 2 and a 1/2 years old.

Nice shot Bimmer! I would have liked to have seen more of the canisters, the textures are intriguing.

haha that is awesome.
Glad you didn't take offense!

More experimentation today. I've only got the standard 18-70 f3.5-5.6 lens, I think I need a shorter lens. Autofocus didn't like it either, this is manual. Only managed a couple of pics before he kicked off....

Sad.

A fallen sunflower from my wife's recent journey. She shot it with her D300 & 17-55/2.8 set-up. You can see some of her other work at her Virb account.

Thanks Doylem and Pinktank, keep the C&C coming. I'm trying to put a portfolio together and appreciate any suggestions. You would've really disliked the original pic, because I cropped the posted one a lot as it was. I took pinktank's suggestion though, and agree this pic is more interesting:
