Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.

Policies

*One Photo per Day
- Don't post more than one photo each day.

*Multi-Quote - To comment on several photos, click the "+ (Multi-Quote) button. This puts all your comments in one post. Multi-Quoting is required on all of the MacRumors forums.

*SFW (Safe for Work) only - This is a site - wide rule. If you wouldn't show it in a public place, then it's NSFW (not safe for work). Think before you post.

*Describe your photo - Tell what it is and where you took it. If you know the EXIF data of a photo, include it. The following EXIF fields are recommended: Camera, ISO, Focal Length, Shutter/Aperture and Lens.

Note: Anyone may start the Photo of the Day thread on the first of the month GMT. Please copy a quote of this post to maintain all the formatting.

second bif attempt. Shot at the Markerwadden. An bird reserve on an artificial island. ( larger than you might expect: a walk around the main island is more than 5 km.)

The one that didn't make the cut for the Shadow Contest, at the old abattoirs I am documenting that is getting repurposed.

Just for example, I am posting the same image twice, to illustrate the crushing of blacks happening on this forum. I'll post externally from now on with my images, so they appear as I intended them to be! No insult meant to the forum gods in any way, I truly love your work, this is a special safe corner of the Interwebz for me to visit and enjoy.

Yeah, I notice my shots lose a bit of vibrancy when direct posted. Maybe the host is dropping color depth when it resizes the photo for forum use in order to save server space? I’ve noticed the difference when I post the same shot here and at another forum I frequent.

Which makes perfect sense as not everybody contributes a fiscal donation towards keeping the place running & hosting servers large enough for all the imagery is not free!

Does it happen as well when you post a photo which is already resized (something like 2000px on the longer end)?

Reposting for August thread. Still at the wildlife rescue/rehab center. While yesterday's emu had the forward fence artifacts in it, sometimes just too close to the forward fence and have to frame the subject around it.

Love the intense connection with the stare directly down the barrel like that! The fence is no issue at all.

Thanks! :) I was trying to figure out if the orange zinnia behind was good or bad?

I like the orange zinnia because it kind of frames the subject and adds visual contrast with the red of the main flower and the green of the background. Also, yeah, because orange is my favorite color anyway! :) The angle of the butterfly and the extreme closeup is stunning, really grabs the viewer's attention more than what's behind it.....
