This was an image I originally shot for the shallow depth of field P52 thread (week 2). This was an interesting challenge for this lens because it is of a wide-ish angle and is designed for landscapes and deep depth of field, so the background focus drops off a bit more slowly than other lenses. A "proper" lens designed for shooting wide open and with a fast aperture of, say 2.8 or wider, might have really blurred out the building (though that will depend also on the design, how close I might be, all the usual stuff), but as it is, I liked the effect. The widest aperture of this lens is 4.0 (which I used here) but is designed to be optimal in the 5.6-8 range. The depth of field at its closest focus distance of about 1.5 feet is 3 inches or so (estimated from PhotoPills DOF tables). That's why the corner area of bark is out of focus on the right and the bit of bark further in is in focus. Use of a round tree trunk helps :).

Yes. It is a small seasonal stream - only runs in the winters when we get lots of rain.
We live on a valley floor , and we get our own rain and all the run off from the mountains above us - kind of like a flash flood of longer duration.
