Sometimes you just have to get wet...

Never saw one of those, not here in Canada at least. Was it the same rotary engine as there was in the RXsomething of those days ? If so, must have been a screamer :)
Yes. The '77 Rotary pickup from Mazda used the 13B engine, the same one used in all of the RX-7 sports cars. The RX-8 pictured on the race track uses the 12B or something like that. Smaller but with more power due to those tech things found on motors these days. Fuel injection, turbo chargers and the like. My truck was extremely quick. The 1200cc motor put out 165 horse power and had a red line of 9000 rpm. Crap...now i'm getting all misty eyed...:-(

When I sold it last year, the folks on the MazdaREPU board estimated that there were only about 400 street ready rotary trucks in the world.

You'll come to love it! :D
Another beauty... So much variety in colour and texture...
Love the details in the rocks and the myst, you've even managed to get a glimpse of sun light on the mountain. Brilliant.

EDIT: I keep coming back to this one, my new favourite from you.

Such great cars, love the MX5s (Miata in USA I believe) - great around the corners.

nice shot - hopefully taken while stopped ;)

Well, I stopped and parked the car, then walked about 100m in rain through mud to get to the desired point where the perspective was right. I just couldn't pass that sky up, all the way from home I was looking for a subject to put in front of that part of the sky. Something that wouldn't be too grand or it would take away from the main subject, the sky. :)

Thanks for that, Reef. It's comments like this one that make it all worthwhile. :)

And in keeping with your photographers-at-work theme, I offer up this shot, courtesy of gnd: me setting up for the shot I posted earlier today. (Since I didn't actually take this photo, it doesn't count as posting two photos in a day, right?) ;) :p

Buttermere: a break in the clouds on a very gloomy day (I had the camera in my bag, but I never imagined I'd take it out...).

Heh. You and I were both rolling dice yesterday. We had about 75% cloud cover, but I went out on a gamble, hoping a break in the clouds might produce something worth snapping. I waited eons and caught a break just before I was about to give up and drive the hour-long trip back home. I'll post the results tomorrow. :)

Capturing a Tiger Lily yesterday before they time is up, they seem @ about 70% here in SE Michigan.

Nice job on that one.

Sorry for the stereotypical sunset shot.
We went to crete for a week and went to eat to a panorama restaurant overlooking the whole bay. Just as the sun set the restaurant in front lit up. There was no grad used etc. this is straight from camera. Still like it but I think it could use some curves adjustment.

Anyway, nice trip but I just shot tons of kids shots and in that respect: thank you Nikon for making excellent equipment. My D7k got splashed with salt and sweet water, sand etc. The 24-70 also saw a fair share of that and yet everything works perfectly..

I'm not entirely happy with this HDR, but I'm going with it anyway. Something just doesn't feel quite right about it to me. Anyone else have any thoughts?

Sunflower in the Sky by Gerg1967, on Flickr

Here is what I think, fwiw. I think the HDR part is what doesn't feel right. The lighting on the sunflower wasn't good in the first place and HDR doesn't fix that. There is no "active" light on it, the flower was in the shade. It looks like the shadows were brought up in PP which resulted in loss of dynamic range and contrast of the colours (washed out colours). What would make this a better photo, or just make it feel right, would be to use off camera flash, preferably gelled with a warm coloured gel, on the sunflower, make it look like it's being lit by a setting sun, maybe another one from the back for the rim light ... Much easier said than done ;)
Or you could just go back there during the sunset, while the sunflower is in the sunlight, with hopefully some nice clouds in the sky, preferably dark stormy clouds, would make for a great contrast :)
