Color Space frustrations

I wonder if someone can help with displaying images on the internet. I was showing a friend some of my online photos of the day on his PC and they looked terrible. I did some reading and found that I am tweaking images with an aRGB (Adobe) color gamut and most PCs display using an sRGB gamut. I noticed that many of your images on here looked very good under either scheme, but I cannot seem to get my images to look as edited on my machine (even understanding there will be some loss for compression). My compressed, ready for web images look great on screen, but once viewed with a browser, look washed out and lacking contrast.

Sorry... a bit long winded, but I'd like my images to look as intended.

For web images you should convert them to sRGB jpegs. It can be a good idea to work on them in Adobe RGB or Pro Photo RGB, but when you've finished processing they'll need converting.

And you'll need to disable the colour-management feature of your browser, if you can. This way, it's a double-check to make sure that the 99.99% of internet users who don't enable colour management in their browsers can see the image as as it's supposed to be.

And now for my photo of the day.

Spur of the moment type thing that I decided to try. Autofocus tracking on normal helped me a bit but clearly it's not 100% in focus.

I like the simplicity of the image (simple nearly always works for me...), but I'd be tempted to clone out the little reddish 'stain'...

Rydal Water this evening... You can almost see the shade of William Wordsworth, striding around the lake as he composed his poetry...

Stunning landscape again Mr Doylem, the shades of green look so lush yet still retain a very natural look to them , and that reflection is awesome.

Steamie, pdxflint, anti-microsoft, and zagato:

Thanks for the encouragement and the kind words :) pdxflint--that was the edge of the photo...per your suggestion I added a titch of headroom in via cloning...still tight but you are right, it looks better :D

Next time something like this rolls into town I'm grabbing a bigger lens. I couldn't help be feel jealous of all the press-pass folks who were happily snapping away right at the edge of the track...

Really beautiful landscape, the reflections in the water are perfect.

Am Gonna Git You !!!!

Brillant, so how big was the spider?

The local small town newspaper is doing a story on my brother and the community tv station he runs. He asked if I would take a photo for him that fit with the story. Do you like how I got some old classic macs in the photo?

With the shots you're getting, I'd put together a portfolio and offer to cover the events as a freelancer for a local newspaper, a cycle magazine or even the event organizers themselves. You should be able to wrangle a press pass if you just ask. Have a business card made, and represent yourself as a pro.

Holy moly! Is that our favorite girl, Lisa? ;) I like this shot. Nice concept, and it would work well as the lead image for a feature article in a magazine, too.

I like the green'ness of this image (green nearly always works for me...,) but I'd be tempted to clone out that damn sheep way off in the distance... :D heh... otherwise - it's simply a stunning bit of landscape.

Try looking for a team that does amateur races, normally the teams in the amateur series can get a press pass pretty easily. Some tracks will want to be sure you've got insurance, so if you don't have it- it's about $300-500/yr for gear and liability. Get some shots and getting credentials gets much easier. Stay on the inside of turns, the bikes crash to the outside.

Excellent concept, looks like he's squinting a bit, but overall that should go well with the story.

Gorgeous light, back to the no cars and no people shots that are stunning- I much prefer your work when it doesn't have cars or people. Lovely shot.

Thanks, his name is Corey.

Thanks, yes he is a squinter and his glasses didn't help much. I tried to get him to open them up but I think he was pretty close to his tolerance of being in front of the camera.
