Just a self-portrait I did. I wanted the light just right to create some sort of look, I'm not sure what to call it. I tried to get my right ear light just the right way, I think it worked out great. Image is Clickable.

The light source seems to be coming from underneath you, and make your nose cast a weird shadow. How did you set up your lighting?

Here's one of my most recent, playing with my Sigma 50mm f1.4

I should have taken a picture of the setup. I did this in my garage. My lighting consisted of a simple, tall floor lamp. You are correct, I had the light leaned up against my lawnmower handle. I don't have any professional lighting equipment, so I had to improvise. I know the picture isn't perfect, but it worked well enough for me.

If it works for you, then good. =) By the way, getting an external flash (one that can swivel the flash head for bouncing) will greatly improve your lighting in these situations.

Once upon a few days ago there was a patch of mushrooms.

This is a lovely shot, great light and tone and the swirl in the sand adds a bit of interest.
(has your P&S project come to an end now ?)

This is a pub in Derbyshire which hasn't changed since, oh, about 1750. Had a few beers there a couple of nights ago, with a handful of people and dogs (more dogs than people, I think), and I got a snap of the landlord in a quiet moment before opening time...

One of my favorite shots from last fall. You couldn't ask for a better expression. My wife caught this one with our point and shoot.

Thanks...and well, actually the point 'n shoot "project" isn't really done... it's just that I got a bit sidetracked. I'll get back to boring folks with the 'snaps' shortly... ;)

I second that! You've been creating some beautiful color shots lately, and seem to have a way with the light. I also am a fan of your b/w work, like this one. Keep sharing them with us... please! :)
