Nice clouds, but, IMO, it's a rather brutal crop; I'm aware of what's been left out...

Unfortunately you are all too correct. I felt I had no choice - there is a lot of clutter in the foreground. So rather than emphasize the mountains (which had been my desire) I cropped to emphasize the clouds.

I set my white balance from the snow. Now I'm playing with layers to have different white balance / saturation for the mountains versus the clouds. Should be fun ...

As always, appreciate good direct feedback. ty

Here is an unprocessed photo I took in Italy. Anyone have suggestions to make it better?

this is really amazing
i think maybe bracketing then doing a little HDR would have made this incredible, but its hard with the wave moving..... so i dont know if its possible
gotta be one of my all time favorites, though

What did you do to this in post production? It has a tone that is very "contemporary", that I like.

I'm quite in love with the "clarity" setting in Lightroom 2/3 BETA. All I did was push that to the max, tweaked some of the highlights and shadows (also messed with the black level, crushed them a bit) and added the vignette. Nothing special really.

As for today's image. Here is my first HDR image ever.

Also did a black and white version, but I didn't quite know which would do best.

Duck!

I use the term "duck" to identify the bird and also the need for the photographer to take action. Two ducks took off and I just had time to capture a few shots of which only one shot was a saver as they approached me... they did turn to the right..:D This is only about a 10-20% crop.

Not sure how or when this happened, but i just noticed my poor nifty 50mm... I used my ipod touch as the light behind it, and i happen to have a glass of red kool-aid on my desk. I think the red made the crack (or whatever it is) much more noticeable than just the white backlighting.
